This isn’t Ashton-bashing. It’s a discussion - is this who comes out on top of the dashboard, the process, the assessment? Are we all just naive to who we can attract?
The manager of a club we fought with last time round (and who got sacked after losing to us) just doesn’t feel that.
A lot has happened since then in terms of progression and perhaps a bit of a reality check of how hard it's going to be to get established in the Prem.
If it does end up being GON then he is the plan because we're going to need to pay compensation as far as I know.

I get the impression he has been top of the list since the club was aware Kieran was departing. If you remember, whispers went around when Kieran was linked with Fulham that O'Neil was the potential replacement.

I find that quite encouraging, even if I'm a little underwhelmed overall.

Yeah, I don’t dispute that really. I maybe dispute that he’s what Ashton would’ve expected in the 2023 interview, but maybe if he wasn’t some British bloke called Gary, we’d all be more taken by him and his record.

Well Gary O'Neil obviously wasn't the succession plan in Nov 2023 was he! 2.5 years is a long time in football and circumstances change. I daresay if we were still a Championship club in the upcoming season then O'Neil wouldn't be the succession plan either. He wouldn't be willing to leave Strasbourg for a start.
