Black Lab. She was 15 years and one month old. Had her since she was 8 weeks old. Hardest thing I've ever had to do. Hope there is an endless bowl of food for her wherever her spirit is now. Going to take some getting over this one. RIP Hunke, you were my best friend old pal . |  |

Aw, condolences mate. It is something that never leaves you, but it does fade over time.
Had our golden lab Jack put down 8 years ago, still think about the cuddles and licks during his final moments. They are just so loving and never judge.
We now have a beautiful 8 month old black lab, Barney. It really helps. |  |

Really sorry for you. It’s a horrible experience but it about quality of life not quantity. We did the same last year with ours who was 14 and had been with us since a puppy. Time does help but you never forget the joy and companionship they gave. Even a year on I am still expecting her to brush against me when preparing salad for some pepper or cucumber which were her favourite treats. Put a nice photo in a prominent place and remember the good times. It will take some considerable time for the pain to ease but it will eventually. You did the right thing. |  | | |

So, so sorry to read that. Instantly made my eyes run when I remember my experiences. I had to put down 2 dogs, 3 months apart. Now I have 3 dogs that keep me busy and I dont think of my previous dogs very often if im honest. Nows not the time for that discussion or thinking, but sorry for your loss and hope it gets easier soon. |  |

Animals become part of your family. part of your life. I had a cat a few years ago that I had to have put down. He followed me everywhere. He would lay on my side when I was in bed. It totally destroyed me when he got cancer and I had to have him put down. I was there when the vet administered the stuff they use. He went quietly and I cried,

Brace yourself, you don't get over it, you just get slightly more used to not having them around as time goes on. One of the toughest things.
We have had a number of dogs, and I still find myself talking to one of my labs who passed away 4 years ago, we still have others but it doesn't take the pain away from losing any of them.
Worst thing about animals, we are generally with them all of their lives, but are only in part of ours . . . [Post edited 21 Jul 15:31]

So sorry to hear this. We had to put our Jack Russell down last week and I'm genuinely struggling a bit. The worst thing is that I work from home and really miss having the company throughout the day. Also the routine of a morning walk has gone and i'm struggling to get out of bed.
