| Starting 11 compared to last times Prem opener 10:57 - Aug 15 with 1428 views | BelsteadCav | When we played against Liverpool the team was…. Walton Tuanzebe Woofenden Greaves Davis Morsy Luongo Chaplin Hutchison Burns Delap This time out I think only Davis will start, that’s a massive turn around. We will get lots of posts saying “ the team needs to time to gel”, and even though I agree we won’t be given any time at all in this ruthless league | |

I would be amazed if we are looking to move Clarke I thought he was our best attacking player last season

I think Muric, and I hate to say it, Jack Clarke were two of the players that really didn't adapt to the level, add to that an unfit Kalvin Phillips, the Ogbene injury and those are areas we failed in. Also Ben Godfrey. The winter window sent a message to the league and the aspirational players we had, who had been fighting, that we weren't going to be staying up and things fell off from there. Tactically we needed to be far more adaptable than we were as well, and that one was on McKenna.

Doesn't mean he'll be good enough for Premier League.

Scherpen should start today, he's our new number 1, I agree with the rest though
| Starting 11 compared to last times Prem opener on 12:04 - Aug 15 with 790 views | pointofblue | The one positive about our starting fixtures from two years ago is it gave us breathing space in the transfer window. No one expected us to pick up any points in either, so it didn't matter we hadn't finished our business. But Sunderland feels really important. Maybe unreasonably so. But considering their performances last year - not sure where they finished but based on xG - this should be a game we have a chance in, and would be good to get something out of to set foundations for the season Yet, whilst improved, put squad is nowhere near ready for it. The first eleven is improved and I'm hopeful we'll announce the signings of Ouattara and Enciso today, who will strengthen the bench. But we still have holes, as per the implication in Thai thread O'Shea may have to start right back next week. The bench is likely to be something like Walton, Ouattara, Kipre, Humphreys, Nunez, Philogene, J Clarke, Mehmeti, Enciso. Perhaps the change of manager or approach at a higher level will help but every outfield player listed who played for us last season flattered to deceive at times in 2025/26 - if I'm being generous, maybe Kipre aside - whilst Ouattara and Humphreys are unproven. I appreciate every team is still looking to do business, and it'll be like that until 1st September, but I wish we had more depth heading into the Sunderland game. It feels like a key match to be taking place so early on. | |

Agreed. But I think Scherpen will need to look solid today if he’s going to start. His first outing in a friendly was a bit of a disaster. He’ll come good.
