Here you go blue brothers and sisters: 1) Shame Fatawu and Florentino were injured as it effected our chance to see the preferred 11 for Sunderland. But Nunez showed the benefit of a more progressive number 8 in the centre mids, and Egeli showed just how much he’s improved by doing really well in right attacking mid (not always the case last season) - Clarke the #10. 2) Egeli has been a revelation this pre-season, he suits the ONeill change in system - more looking forward - vertical football - he chose to go earlier and more forward on multiple occasions. I think the young Norwegian has earnt a start in the 10 against Sunderland with Enciso no doubt eventually taking the role. 3) It does seem OShea will play either right back or right sided centre back in a 3. He does well in an orthodox right back position as he’s quite quick and wants to go forward - and what a brilliant strike. It’s noticeable when furlong came on he was playing much more advanced again. 4) Both Maeda and Emersonn really do have incredible workrate and did so much right in Berlin, but they can be a little loose sometimes. And our rapid Japanese star is perhaps not clinical - as per Celtic fans views. 5) Lukic was tidy, overall impressive and did get up the pitch. He looks a step up in quality. But did get in a pickle on a couple of occasions. Don’t think he’s error free. 6) Greaves was a bit loose and probably culpable for their first VERY soft goal, which started with Davis not tracking his man - we’ll get hurt with that type of careless play in the Premier League. But overall Greaves was excellent - and deserves the starting berth against Sunderland. 7) our giant Dutch keeper looked a little overwhelmed at times again, and it wasn’t the perfect display to say “I am number 1” - but his height and commanding of the box and goalmouth are formidable. 8) success this season will have a lot to do with the quality we can bring in at 60-70mins - that will include Clarke, Philogene, Mehmeti and McAteer. Clarke was good throughout yesterday in a starting role. He will suit tired legs and space though as a sub. Jaden reminded us of his tricks but looked a little rusty. But Mehmeti looked sharp and up for it. McAteer brings an incredible energy - and what a finish. [Post edited 16 Aug 13:37]
