Have the club shared any future plans for that area we purchased, or is it simply going to be be a car park?

Just thought with the talk of the fanzone, are they missing a trick with not having another one out the back there too?

They have spent a lot of time and money making it a car park, so doubt they have any other plans tbh.

Its not a huge bit of land either.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

They do. Although someone did mention to me an age ago that there were plans to use the South Stand car park as the Fan Zone in the long term, (I assume with the broadcast compound moving to the practice pitch).

I think as a club we'll be working with the council to secure more land around the stadium too. I wouldn't be surprise to see us buy Portman Car Park A, (on the corner of Sir Alf Ramsey Way and Portman Road), or to make an offer on Churchman's House in the very long term.

Churchmans house is pretty much derelict now isn't it? thought I read that it had huge building issues and people moved out.

Isn’t the swimming pool going on that side, or have I got that completely wrong? There’s supposed to be a hotel somewhere too.

Edit - ignore me - Aquatics Centre and hotel are planned for PR car park area. I must have been getting confused with our joint plans with Travelodge behind SAR. The car park and fan pedestrian approach are the main plans for that area; it’s also part of our Cat 1 academy vision somehow.

When the away fans are eventually moved there, what is now Beattie's can become the away fan zone. With the Sir Bobby Robson suite becoming away team hospitality.

I think Churchman lives too far from the ground for us all to meet there before a game.

Makes it easier to purchase and demolish then.

There’s going to be a new Ashton’s bar back there. One half will be coffee, the other half will be an oxygen bar.

The other thing I can see happening in the very long term is an attempt to widen the base of the SBR probably out as far as the curb line to improve the space in the concourse, (Something like they are doing on the West Stand is possible, or a very very very long term plan to shove the whole stadium back toward the train station by about 10 feet.

Indicators would be.

1. An application for a traffic order to make Sir Alf Ramsey Way made one way
2. Or when we get the plans for the Cobbold it seems strangely offset

Option one is significantly more likely.

Makes sense that it would be a carpark because when we develop the Cobbold not only will there be an increased demand for parking, but that will also eat into the existing Portman Road carpark. Looks like more parking has gone in behind the West Stand as well. Will be interesting to see how the roads around the area cope with the increase in cars coming right into the centre.

They’re going to build a new multi-storey car park as part of the Portman Road Development plan. I don’t know how many spaces it will add. They’ve have an interesting change over when they’re developing that site. I don’t know whether all car parking will be lost until the multi-storey opens or if they’ll be able to phase the development.

It is what it is, with all of the housing and offices around there and an arena going on the practice pitch. That road will need to be wide for emergency services and access.

Yeah it looks that way, but we're talking about Portman Road potentially accommodating an additional 10,000 supporters by 2030-31, so the increased demand in parking will be substantial. And also, I'm not sure this ownership will stop at 40,000 capacity if the club continues to grow. I'm absolutely convinced they'll want over 50,000 with the level of investment they've been putting in.

Well, yes, the Kent hovel is too far away and not derelict yet. The Suffolk bungalow is heading for derelict unless I get some work done! And is beyond walking distance to the ground. The nearby pub by the Deben is nice though!!

There was a post-Grenfell cladding issue that I think is now covered by government leasehold cover. not sure if works have been carried out, but i saw people exit the building on Saturday so presumably there are people inside.
