| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players 22:36 - Aug 25 with 3758 views | Garv | Who passed? i.e who would you be comfortable with playing a string of league games? Walton? Yes Furlong? Not for me O'Shea? N/A (yes) Kipre? Maybe Outattara? Yes Humphreys? No Nunez? Yes Clarke? Yes Walle-Egeli? Sorry, no. McAteer? Sorry, no. Akpom? No. So a good old mixture. Those last three I would still replace if we could, I just don't think they're a combination of smart enough, good enough or physical enough to really have an impact in the Premier League. Obviously can't see all three going though. The main argument against is Walle and the fact he does pop up with the odd goal. Sorry to be negative after a good night. [Post edited 25 Aug 23:07]

| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 22:54 - Aug 25 with 2993 views | Nutkins_Return | My Yes list would be: Egeli Ouattara (but not convinced as LB) O'shea Akpom (nearly....He played well tonight's big part in two goals. His finishing was a no.If he had put one away it would have been a clear yes). *Edit: adding Nunez Wasn't a good performance but got us through. [Post edited 26 Aug 10:06]

| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 22:57 - Aug 25 with 2941 views | Dubtractor | Largely agree, but I'd put SWE in the yes list. Really ineffective first half, but thought he was much better in the central role. Not sure what GON was thinking with the positions of our AM 3 in that first half tbh, will chalk it down to an experiment that didn't work! | |

Seconded. Egeli is fine as cover for the ten position. Excluding Palacios, I'd love to see us thing in a central defender who can play right back, a right winger and a striker. Another left back or centre back on top.of that would be nice but probably a luxury. Tonight showed the squad isn't really there in terms of depth yet. [Post edited 25 Aug 23:14]

| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 23:26 - Aug 25 with 2621 views | Mookamoo | Egeli was pretty good when playing at 10. He is not, and has never been a winger, so it is unfair to keep judging him when he isn't playing more central. Ouattara looked promising. Constantly trying to find space and get beyond the ball, but still had the pace to get back when we lost posesion. McAteer annoys me. Hard working, but cant do the basics. Akpom fought all night against two big CB units and won most battles. So wanted him to score when 1v1, but he is not a natural finisher. That miss alone just bumped him down to Striker #3 and has cost us another £20 million as we try and find someone better. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 23:28 - Aug 25 with 2604 views | Wallingford_Boy | Think you managed to get most of that wrong! Egelli a big yes for me. Kipre a huge no, just too big and slow and gives the ball away every time he has it. Ouatarra is a maybe, hard to judge on one game, but didn’t stand out. Agree with Humphrey’s and Akpom though, they are miles away. | |

To be honest I think you're being generous. Scored a goal he should be scoring, he was in absolute acres. 'Big' part in the second goal, really? I'll admit I saw nothing of pre season, but pre season means very little. Not sure what he added on Saturday either, not that he did anything wrong. Just don't see it yet.

My theory is that he wanted to get Clarke used to playing in the 10, because he might be used to replace Enciso when needed unless we get another 10. And the reason for that is, in my opinion, Egeli isn't ready. I just don't see it it yet, hasn't got the physicality and I don't think he's incisive enough or makes quick enough decisions on the ball. Pops up with the odd goal to his credit. But PL teams won't give him half the space Leicester did tonight.

Personally a well taken composed finish by Walle.... still finding his feet and place in the team. Thought he looked better on the right tonight but as others have said looks better playing a bit deeper and running directly with the ball. Again not digging into Akpom but Id have more confidence in Walle scoring 1 on 1 currently.

Akpom did really well tonight in general, he bullied the CB that got booked and did brilliantly in the build up for goal #1. Just don't see him bullying PL centre halves.

Respectfully, and considering we're now looking for Premier League quality players, that's a low bar.

No Nunez? Not as a starter Clarke? Yes Walle-Egeli? No McAteer? Miles off it Akpom? Not as a starter

| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 06:36 - Aug 26 with 1841 views | dirtyboy | Crazy how different we see things. Only O’Shea, Nunez and Egeli (when in 10) were any good. Ouattara was okay but hard to say if that’s his preferred position. Kipre looked rusty, good in places poor in others. Humphreys okay, Furlong ok. Akpom did everything well other than the most important bit. Mcateer same, better when switched, same for Clarke, who looks dangerous whenever he’s got the ball in anything resembling space. Clarke probably should be added to decent. They got moved about a bit so will never be fluid best. | | | |
| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 07:13 - Aug 26 with 1669 views | rexron | Ipswich is a small club and don't have the possibilities of having 22 players of top quality. That's just the way it is. I think we will need many of these players already in this season. Humpreys and Walle Egeli is quite young and will develop. | |

| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 07:20 - Aug 26 with 1614 views | Bluemike31 | I thought Ouatarra was the pick of the bunch in the first half and looks a good buy, Egeli is comfortably good enough when played correctly, Akpom fine as third choice. O'Shea, Nunez & Clarke are clearly good enough. Definite no's for me are Humphreys & Kipre while McAteer & Furlong divide opinion, can play a bit part I guess. I wouldn't want to see Walton in the starting Eleven too often either. | | | |

This post perfectly summarises what I took from last night. Unsurprisingly Clarke much better LW and not in a 10, and SWE much better in a 10 and not RW. I’d happily have SWE as back up for Enciso in the 10 given the other options we have for that back up role now depending on what any particular game needs.

Walton? £1m Furlong? £4m O'Shea? £15m Kipre? £4m Outattara? £16m Humphreys? Free Nunez? £8m Clarke? £15m Walle-Egeli? £18m McAteer? £10m Akpom? £7m A fringe team that cost £98 million!!!!

| Tonight was an audition for our fringe players on 07:59 - Aug 26 with 1409 views | bsw72 | Hard to judge as GON was playing some of the team out of position and chopping and changing approach. What impressed me is that I always felt the team had 2-3 more gears to go through if they needed to. | | | |

but don't forget, we will only ring one or two of these players on and with better players around them who knows what they can do, we can't afford the luxury of 22 players all of the same standard

That's incredibly harsh on Núñez, who also played well against Sunderland.
