This will be hugely unpopular, i'm going to be shot down but if we couldnt 09:32 - Aug 27 with 2371 viewsLion

get Ueda, ( if the club actually want him, because we don't know if they definitely do, dutch media report his club is open to a transfer for 15 million quid so you wonder why it hasn't happened if we wanted him/ he was first choice ) and we couldn't get Flemming or a player of his their ilk, are you ready.....if it came down to the end of the window and we still need a striker in ( and we do ).......I would be open to Josh Coburn...he bullied us at Portman Road last season, he is great defensively facing free kicks and Corners and he is far better than Akpom.

I told you it would be unpopular

Based on his performance at Portman Road I’d be quite happy with Coburn. Not as our first choice but as a squad player, someone to come off the bench or when we need to go route one. With the increasing emphasis on set pieces it’s only a matter of time until “proper” centre forwards make a come back in the top division. McBurnie has shown already that a good championship centre forward can be effective in the premier league.

Of course Gav if Flemming went to Everton and we could get Beto on loan it would be better, if we can't get Ueda or Flemming or Beto, who is on our radar do you think?! It is definitely sending me cuckoo I know.....maybe i just had a funny turn

On the one hand it feels anticlimactic and very 2024 to be sniffing around Millwall or the Championship in general. Having said that he is a player I like, and plenty have successfully made a transition from Champ to Prem. Would also be one who, should we go down, would be a very good player to have in the squad.

I don't think its a route we'll go down, probably correctly, but not the worst suggestion in the world. They'll also want silly money for him probably as he's so key to their promotion hopes and so late in the window.

Ideally we'll get someone who can hit the ground running. Does Delap's move to Forest push Wood out of the picture? 1 year left on his deal and at 34, presumably wouldn't be a silly fee but might be a decent pick up to get someone with that experience. Also good friends with O'Shea, a young Dara lived with Wood's parents when he first moved over to WBA from Ireland.

Not what we need at all.

His underlying stats per 90 are mostly worse than both Hirst and Azon last season.

We need way better.

I know Wood has done well at Forest, and this is probably unfair as I don't think he was fit, but I can't forget how hopeless he was for us when McCarthy signed him, he was Gerry Creaney levels of shocking and its hard to erase the memory!
The other striker i would have liked who ply's his trade in the championship - and it can't realistically happen as he has only just signed for them - is Will Lankshear. I think he is already a good player with a high ceiling, Spurs would have done well to keep him, i'd rather play him then Richarlson if i was them and see how he can develop.

Yeah he knows where the net is, just too much of a project together with Emersonn. We need somebody who has been there and done it to some extent.

Yes but who? I guess I / we are going to have to be patient.
And he is a better player then Hirst, Azon is a good forward, potentially very good but a poor striker.
Coburn would have scored 20 for us last year btw.
I'd be happy to have better than Coburn and i did say if it came down to the end, at the moment our options after Emerson are not good!

He *may* have scored more for us last season (we'll never know of course), but the rest of his game is off where both Hirst and Azon were, so how many goals would we have lost elsewhere on the pitch through losing the other qualities Hirst & Azon brought?

Agree, Wood had his 'Murphy' season and fair play to him, but too old an injury prone now.

Such a shame you posted this just 30 mins before news broke about Abrahams! Makes it look a bit silly now, but forgetting about breaking news since, then yes, you might have a point.

But even if TA doesn't happen i think it shows the level of player we are after - and Coburn doesn't come near to that!

I do think Coburn a decent player, i hoped we could get a Flemming or Ueda, i never dreamed we could possibly get a player of the stature of Tammy Abraham, I'm glad the club are thinking bigger and happy to look a fool 'cos if we can make Tammy happen then i am one happy fool Vic!

The league in the Netherlands is a very poor level of football. I would steer well clear of him.
