I've seen a lot of people saying "I'm expecting to lose but..."
I'm not 'expecting' to lose, neither am I 'expecting' any other outcome. I have the same 'hope' I always have at the beginning of every season, that this time we may have built a team to go for it.
17th place finish is the minimum we need to be aiming for as a successful season, but the hope is there that we actually do better and upset a few along the way - why shouldn't today be one of those days? |  |

I think those ManU internet pundits expecting a ten-men-behind-the-ball low block will be in for something of a surprise.
Our team is recruited and set up to press high and to win the battle in midfield, while getting back fast to nullify crosses. That means they are blocked well beyond shooting range, the layered defence gives chances to recover from breakthroughs and when we rcover the ball, we are within attacking range ourselves.
I think it will be a defesnive strategy on our side, but much further up and more energetic than opposition fans are expecting. |  |

Thing is, to finish 17th, we'd need to have out-pointed at least one of the established teams. If we can do that to one, then it puts us in contention with a group of four or five others of broadly similar standard (or having messed up), some or all of whom we would stand an equal chance of finishing above. | |

Of course we should play to win. Do I expect us to? No. But that’s not the point. If the players leave it all out there and do their best as each and every one of them did last week that’s enough. It might be enough to get a result too. You never know.
What I am most interested in is the way that we play. Do we have the necessary to truly compete and get results when the season truly starts in October? Are the players bonding and playing for each other?
We have significantly better platers than two years ago and in key area too, particularly midfield. A centre comprising of washed up Phillips, ineffectual Cajuste and ageing Morsy gave us no chance from the start. Controlling games was for the opposition, not us. But not now. Sunderland had a lot of the ball last week, but they were never in control.
United with better players and at home probably will be. It’ll be interesting how we respond. |  | | |
