Today’s Nostslgia post (in 3 parts) is about a player who joined Town in a hugely significant transfer and went on the play for both clubs. Seemed fitting.

And if you remember a better left foot to play for Town please do say……

My all time greatest and favourite Ipswich Town player - I was gutted when he left us on a free to go to United.

Really? Tell me how...

And then perhaps, a way to also get over Dalian Atkinson being allowed to leave for such a small fee too?

I thought he was absolute rubbish when I first saw him play for us. Weak looking, loped about the pitch aimlessly. Couldn’t tackle a hot dinner. One footed, no shot on him, rubbish in the air. A waste of time, space and money. We got beaten that day too. Like playing with 10 men. Get rid! Booo!

And then the team started to play to him rather than over his head. He also got stronger, Frans joined and he really dovetailed into Arnold’s game. The rest is history. 161 appearances, 21 goals and left foot like a magic wand. With the likes of Brazil, Mariner and Gates up front, Frans next to him and Wark just behind timing his runs, it’s little wonder we tore teams to bits. And Muhren was key to it.

So to stop waffling, I’ve not seen as good a passer of the ball than Muhren for us or anyone else.

most naturally elegant player, I can recall seeing, seemed to just float everywhere. Poetry in motion. Franz was the same when he had the ball, it seemed glued to him.
