Everton's James Garner (who Fatawu was trying to show the ref that contact was coming), should also have been yellow carded himself for waving an imaginary card at the ref to make sure Fatawu got his 2nd yellow
Ref may well have done so without Garner's input, but, ref should also have applied the letter of the law (below) & yellow carded Garner, too...
When a footballer waves an imaginary yellow or red card to pressure the referee into booking an opponent, they are given a yellow card (caution).

You are correct with the current rules, but I've never really understood that. You can appeal for just about anything - a foul, a penalty, fall to the floor when hardly touched - but not a card? In fact, looking at that, you can suggest to the referee that a card be shown as long as you are not "gesturing" or "arguing persistently".
I mean in a perfect world, sure I agree, but make it consistent with querying any decision - the Corinthian Casuals are long gone I'm afraid. |  |

This is a bit desperate and pathetic really, we're just deflecting from our own player trying to cheat. We should be talking about Fatawu.
We all know the yellow card gesture 'law' is ridiculous anyway. It's happened several times across various games this season, ours and others. Realistically it won't be punished every time, either because the ref hasn't seen it or it's just not that obvious a gesture, and that's fine.
It's funny, you can run 30 yards and shout at a referee and verbally tell him he should give the opposition a yellow card, and that's okay, but make a silent gesture with your hand (indicating exactly the same thing) and you get punished for it. |  |

I know a player is trying to gain advantage by pretending he is fouled, but apparently Fatwa is only the third player to be sent off for diving. Again I have reservations with regards to this big team, little team thing. Would an Everton player have received the same treatment ?
5 games in and already one very controversial decision and now this one.
In industry to have power over the price of something by several firms is called a cartel.
Isn't it exactly the same in the Premier League where we now have a handful of clubs able to spend over £100 million on one player, having crowds over 50 thousand and all the additional deals worldwide that comes with that and of course regardless of how much owners are happy to put into a club they are still restricted by actual revenue which in turn favours the bigger clubs. | | | |

I reckon we could pick a few dives in every prem game, easily. There were several by Everton players, particularly defenders, yesterday.
And yet we get the incredibly rare card and sending off.

Completely irrelevant for me. We need to accept that it was ridiculous from our player. He was rightly booked and thus sent off. We shouldn’t deflect from it. We will never really know, but that stupidity amd let’s face it cheating, May have cost us in the end. | | | |

He wasn't send off for diving. He had a yellow card - don't think anyone would argue with that one - and he got a second yellow for a dreadful dive.

Palacios has done it once or twice himself. Shouldn't be a big deal really, it's usually foreign players who don't speak much English. | |
