It’s a poor watch. None of them have the ability to really influence the game in an attacking sense. Plenty of pretty football going absolutely no where.
I will add I think we are a long long way away from seeing a youth prospect near our first team again if this is the standard. Humphries who would be absolute stand out for us in a game like this for example and he can’t get a kick in the first team. [Post edited 22 Sep 19:52]

Most of the good players that are eligible to play for the u21s will already be in and around the 1st team. The only decent players will be those playing well above their age group, like Max Dowman playing for Arsenal u21s a couple of weeks ago. | |

Don’t underestimate the step up from age limited U21 football to full professional (even with Matusiwa as a ringer), then factor in that a number of our best U21s are on loan.

I like it. Really enjoyed ColU v West Ham last season. The gate was as high as for a league game. but it's cheap to get in and the whole atmosphere is more relaxed. Got to see some truly talented West Ham youngsters, and interesting to see some young Colchester players I'd only heard of. Colchester eventually threw on 5 first-teamers in one go about half way through the second half and really gave it a go (the Cowleys have made no secret they'd love to get to Wembley to give the fans a day out) but WH held on for a 1-0 win. Everyone around me seemed to enjoy the game. It's a bit like going to watch 50 over county cricket - the best players are elsewhere and you just go along and have a chat to your mate while enjoying a bit of sport. |  | | |
