Looks like we won’t know the punishment until after the appeal results are known. No doubt whatever the punishment they will appeal against that so a further wait. Presumably if Premier League feel the punishment is too lenient they can also appeal.

| Manchester City on 08:58 - Oct 12 with 1443 views | SenatorBlue | I can’t see the PL allowing City to lift the title trophy this summer, or event the FA allowing the FA Cup. Either would be a complete farce. Surely whatever happens, happens this season, hopefully Bordeaux style. | | | |
| Manchester City on 09:19 - Oct 12 with 1378 views | flykickingbybgunn | They launched their appeal on 1st October. They then have 12 weeks to prove their case. Say end of December. The final decision on the penalties imposed (if any) should come within 30 days of that. Plenty of time before the end of the season. | | | |

I’d read somewhere that the PL were pushing for the punishment to be announced pending the outcome of the appeal. There’s no reason in principle why they couldnt do that

Yes, they can do that - and it makes sense for the PL to do it, because any appeal of the sanction can then be dealt with at the same time.

The appeal has to take place within 12 weeks and it has to be held over no more than 5 days which must be consecutive. Then, as you say, result delivered within 30 days.

Give them a massive fine and transfer restraints for a few seasons, but I really hope no points deductions. If Man City gained the most points but don't win the league then its also a farce as the title winners will not be the team who gained the most points. Whatever the outcome though this season will be tainted. Horrible situation for the PL

Precedent already set for points deductions with the likes of Forest and Everton in last couple of seasons - almost certain to be part of the punishment,. In the EFL punishments been bigger: -30 points for Luton in 2008/9 -21 Derby in 2021-2 -18 for Sheff Weds last season.

It is highly likely that at least some players, agents and managers were complicit, since they would have been in receipt of 'off-the-books' payments. They were either very naïve or turned a blind eye. And why protect the Citeh fans rather than recompense the fans of all the other club's fans that were cheated of success during those years. Whoever ultimately knew, or were involved, the club must suffer a meaningful and proportionate sanction. What you propose would be close to meaningless to Citeh in the short term - money is not a significant issue for them, and their squad would likely be pretty competitive without transfers for at least a couple of seasons. If even half of what they are accused of is true, the sanctions has to result in as big a reset as possible for that club.

What about the fans of teams who were cheated out of titles? Or, more importantly, players? Or Managers who were sacked as a result of not qualifying for the Champions League by one place? Are you unaware that this could have been dealt with years ago with a deduction of a handful of points, but that the Panel has determined that Man City lied, covered up and used false accounting to maintain the sham? The closest precedent to what you suggest, a fine, is what happened to West Ham over Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano. They broke rules to sign two players, and were punished. They plead guilty and there had been a change of ownership who took responsibility. That is why they were "only" fined. Man City, the panel has determined, assembled an entire squad over nearly a decade by breaking the rules and withholding evidence or offering false evidence, to cover it up, compromising the integrity of football competitions in the UK and internationally for that period, and beyond, as the players continued to play for them. Manchester City deny the charges and have appealed the Panel's decision. That removes one of the precedents for leniency.

What sort of fine do you propose giving to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (GDP $118b) which is likely to have any impact? Players have benefitted from inflated wages, fans have benefitted from a squad of better quality than they should have been able to assemble. A fine is pointless. A transfer embargo 'for a few seasons' will have little effect unless it goes on for about a decade. A team gaining the most points with a squad assembled in contravention of the rules (and by seemingly fraudulent behaviour) does not deserve the title. No different to athletes taking banned substances to enhance their performances (and this was no mistake like failing to properly read the packaging).

| Manchester City on 12:05 - Oct 12 with 961 views | baxterbasics | I still worry that they have enough lawyers to keep this dragging on well beyond this season. Plus when it comes to punishment, too many other PL clubs will be sweating about their own dodgy dealings and will want to soft peddle it if there are any votes or ratification needed. | |

| Manchester City on 12:28 - Oct 12 with 906 views | Leaky | Just been reading some posts on the Blue Moon site. Fans seem to think they had to break Financial rules to break, as they call it the Red Cartel presumably Man U, Liverpool & Arsenal I suppose you could put Chelsea in there as well. How ever you should fight to change the rules, not break them. | | | |
| Manchester City on 12:55 - Oct 12 with 843 views | Basuco | I am thinking City may have done an "Adrian Newey", by working out what the rules actually say, as opposed to what their intent is. If the PL have not got it right the City legal team will fight it all the way. | | | |

If the punishment is just a fine and a transfer ban then they've effectively cheated for no real downside. Punishment needs to reflect that they've cheated for over a decade. At the bare minimum they need their titles removed. Frankly, I have next to zero sympathy for the fans who seemed pretty happy yesterday. If anything, shows they aren't really taking this all that seriously. They should be furious with their club but they aren't.

You cannot just give a bigger fine because they are rich. It is a mess I agree, I am just not sure a points deduction is the answer. But then again I am biased as I have bet on City to win the league. Whatever is going to happen though needs to happen soon.

You ought at least to have your stake refunded, given the circumstances.
