10 very quick unstable thoughts on City 3-2 Town 18:05 - Oct 17 with 1824 viewsunstableblue

Oh well:

1) I liked the idea and look of the team, I’m glad we’ve finally tried the true back 3. But Lukic felt like a loss, and my concerns on Enciso decision making when we did have the ball upfield sadly came to fruition.

2) But there was a tonne of good about today’s display, when you’re 3-2 against a City team, who’ve won every game, and they and their fans are nervous for the long injury time. It’s not a terrible day at the office.

3) I felt like we left a point up at the Hill Dickinson, not sure about today. City had some very strong chances to take it away from us. But perhaps with some better individual performances and decision making upfield and at the back, we could have pulled off something historic today. And the fact we’re even discussing this is wonderful.

4) Greaves obviously comes under scrutiny and his early play he was skating around a yellow, being stretched and pulling shirts. But his later blocks and positioning deserve praise, one moment was goal saving.

5) Palacios is wonderful, he is our Xhaka, keep him fit and we’ll stay up.

6) Ouatarra and OShea put in full blown displays. Our young talent from the Alsace was up against one of the best wingers in Europe. And whilst it wasn’t all perfect his decision making is of someone much older.

7) My gripes today was all about not converting upfield posession into threat, and Enciso was the main culprit. I actually thought Emerson did OK. Not perfect, but he did enough for me.

8) Gosh I wish Scherpen had started the season more positively as I’m convinced some of those shots were in his wheelhouse to save.

9) I’m loving what we can do from the bench. The Akpom/Flemming duo is a game changer. I did think also Matusiwa improved us over Florentino - who struggled - albeit City were tired by then. Clarke looks Prem level every time now.

10) So no points, but much to be proud of. Haaland is a machine and he was the difference. Hats off to that quality. We could have done better against him though, Diop was a bit loose. Yet, today was a free hit. Forest on Friday is massive now, take the good stuff from today into that game and we win. And that includes a combative and goal scoring mega display from Maeda. Is he the new Tommy Smith?

COYFB - keep the faith

I’ll say it, I think if he played in goal today we would have got something.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Picking up point 5 - Palacios ran 12.5km today on 18:20 - Oct 17unstableblue

Which is crazy

Highest of both teams - yes Man City

At least a km more than any Town player

Davis, Ouatarra and OShea the only ones near

Walton won us the three points against Fulham. Lest we forget.

And some saves again today.

But some of those goals today Scherpen may have done better with.

At least we have real depth in the position.

As stated it’s all about the Forest game now.

Point 8 is really valid imho. I only saw the goals for the first time this morning but had read the pile on to Walton last night. I dont actually blame Walton for any of the goals, but a bigger keeper might have clawed that second goal away or deflected that Foden shot clear

Good point the goals were frankly caused ahead of Walton in the play building up to it.

Ouatarra who was generally good, gets too far advanced for the first, OShea is then the sole cover, and the remaining centre backs need to snuff out Foden

Florentino needs to do much better with a half hearted tackle before the cross to Haaland to head in.

But I think as you say perhaps Scherpen may have had the physique to stop one.

All in the past now - let’s beat Forest.

MAEDA fending/shoulder barging GUEHI - was the highlight on 13:35 - Oct 18unstableblue

Ouatarra’s pass for Maeda’s goal was the kind of quality that we struggled with in our last Premier League campaign. And now we have it in our team.

But that Maeda moment - to have an attacking player who can outmuscle an England World Cup centre back, who’s also lightening quick - just wow!

It was an immense moment.

And I sense our Japanese star is settling at Town and in the Premier League.

More please.

Were you at the game. After the goal. Did man city drop deeper at the back? I was suprised we didnt try that move again after the goal so assumed city simply dropped deeper?

10 very quick unstable thoughts on City 3-2 Town on 13:52 - Oct 18BloomBlue

Walton got his hand to the 2nd one it was just bad luck that the ball then bounced back off his other hand. Its the sheer power of the header that forced it back off Walton's hand - he did nothing wrong.

The mistakes were ahead of him. 1st, Foden the only City player around the 6 yard box and surrounded by 5 Town players and none of them get a tackle in. 2nd we give them the time to pick out a cross to an unmarked Haaland, a Haaland who is world famous for the ability to put loads of power into a header, especially when unmarked. 3rd goal is a championship level at best (poss L1 level) cross field pass by Palacios straight to a City player when we're attacking, that left us completely exposed, then Ouatarra is too weak in the tackle and Haaland is 1:1 with Walton.

Yeah agree, as per views below. A rare error from palacios - which seemed to spur him into greeting his form in check.
