He may prove to be a decent keeper in the long run but they massively overpaid for him, no question about it

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Not sure we’re in any position to criticize others for overspending on goalkeepers!

How so? Third goal. Sure looks like he should have saved it. But its a very hard hit shot. Low. Close to keeper. Difficult to save.

A bit like Delap I guess, it's very early days but I'll be surprised if they get that back, especially if they are relegated

He was a big part of their success last season. He looked poor tonight (as did the Spurs keeper) but I can understand why they paid a lot for him.

Both sides looked very poor at the back.

Those two and Muric cost us over 30million and we have Walton in goal instead. Not exactly a success story in that department.

A good year last year but more evidence the Championship is not the PL.

He hadn't played one game at the top level anywhere in Europe, it was too much money and Brighton held out for a big price when they were bidding against themselves basically.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

He's had a miserable start and their backup is Dan Bentley, a no. 2 in multiple senses I've read. Not nice for him but valuable for us if this continues.

Muric £8M, now moved on for a reasonable fee.
Scherpen ~£8.5M
Oevelen £3.5M, and brought in for development and loaned out.

Nowhere near your “over £30M” for our squad this season.

For me he isn't a direct comparison to the three signings we have made

I'd expect someone more established for the value they have paid, Southampton paid £18 million, with add ons potentially rising to £25 million and he was a good age having played in the PL and for England

Three we don’t use though. At least they’re playing who they’ve bought. Not that I’d swap. He was ok in the Championship, but it’s such an exposed position for a younger keeper to step up and be expected to be the main keeper. Although Richard Wright managed it with us.

Changing his name to Notworthit. Isn't his fault of course that stupid money was paid for him.

I may have overstated some numbers altho BBC has Muric at 10m initial fee. And let’s not forget whatever we paid for the data analytics contract with goalkeeper.com. If we’re still in that contract, probably time to cut bait.

Maybe we could buy him in January, we love buying keepers. It's our whole thing.

Haha, you know your argument's failing when you're bringing in the cost of the data to bolster it!

What about the cost of goalkeeping gloves, that should boost your numbers a bit more!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I have it on good authority that we have the worst keeper in the league, though.

We seem to have forgotten that Alex Palmer is contracted to summer 2028 who was signed for a fee of 2m + bonuses.

He really needs to be playing and he is not going to do it here.

Without poking the fire, is he that much worse than Walton? They all have one thing in common regardless, they cannot play out from the back.

If it wasn't for him I don't think they would have gone up top 2,
Today they've overpaid long term probably not,
He's young it's a tough league he made some howlers first two games,
As we know it's a very tough league and big step up,
I wish him well,

Think that's a bit unfair on Walton now. I'd have agreed at the start of last season where I'd have kittens every time he had the ball at his feet. He improved that aspect of his play dramatically over the season. I don't think that's a problem now - certainly better than Palmer. I don't think we've really seen enough of Scherpen to fully judge him yet.
