Humphreys Wycombe Return Talks Stall
Thursday, 8th Jan 2026 11:40

Talks between the Blues and Wycombe Wanderers regarding midfielder Cameron Humphreys returning to Adams Park are reported to have stalled.

The Chairboys are known to be keen to re-sign the 22-year-old, who spent a very successful spell on loan with the League One side last season.

However, according to the Bucks Free Press, as it stands there are “a lot of things to iron out” before a deal is done.

Town would prefer Humphreys to make a loan move to the Championship rather than returning to League One in which he starred for Wycombe last season, winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

Oxford United could be among those to show interest with Scott Mitchell, who worked with Humphreys in the Town academy and was behind his move to Wycombe, now the Yellows’ head of recruitment.

Humphreys has rarely featured for the Blues this term, making three brief Championship sub appearances, in addition to his only start in the Carabao Cup, and manager Kieran McKenna recently said he will consider sending the midfielder and Elkan Baggott out on loan this month.

has to be a Championship move for me - he earned it last season. I'll be hugely disappointed if he drops to League 1 again

Interesting one this, he needs to play but he's already 22, if he was going to make it here don't we think he would have forced his way in already? I can't see the point of stipulating Championship if we expect to further strengthen in there and hope to be PL next season. It just doesn't seem to fit to me

Such a shame that Wycombe fell short at the last hurdle and got out muscled by Wrexham & Charlton. Maybe things would have been different if Matt Bloomfield had stayed there & Cam could now be playing for them in the Championship.

Hea never going to feature regularly so we may as well sell him and let is career develop elsewhere

I do agree Bazza8564 and I do feel it is disappointing that he has not ever been given a run of games in midfield to prove himself (or not). But the reason for Champ over League 1 loan could simply be financial....after all if he does shine in another Championship team, assuming we do not still want the lad, then his value will be considerably higher than any loan spell in league 1 where we will learn nothing more than we already knew. As always...money talks !

Portman, get you point but if he's not the best option just can't give him games ahead of others, and KM sees him train every day so there must be gaps

At 22 he could still be a valuable asset OR squad member imo, but he needs to be tested at this level, so a struggling team in the Championship (not Norwich) is the ideal place.

Not everyone breaks thru early as Omari did. Jack T is only now breaking into the team as a starter and beginning to show his true potential - at age 27. CamH and indeed Elkan may also be examples of late developers so let’s not give up yet

This is simple, he's not getting a chance in a Championship team, He'd most certainly never get one in PL team. It would be the fairest thing to do for CH to let him go somewhere permanent so he can pursue the career he obviously loves with regular games.
