Ten Changes For Town at Wrexham
Friday, 13th Feb 2026 19:06

Town boss Kieran McKenna has made 10 changes for this evening’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground with George Hirst skippering for the first time and Dan Neil making his full debut (BBC One Wales, KO 7.45pm).

Alex Palmer returns in goal with Ben Johnson at right-back and Elkan Baggott, making his first start for the Blues since September 2023, at left-back.

Cedric Kipre, the only survivor from Saturday’s 2-1 win at Derby, is alongside Jacob Greaves at the heart of the defence.

In midfield, full debutant Neil comes in alongside Jens Cajuste with Kasey McAteer on the right, Sindre Walle Egeli the number 10 and Chuba Akpom on the left with Hirst the central striker.

Young left-back Somto Boniface is on the bench alongside first team regulars and third-choice keeper David Button.

Wrexham make five changes from the 2-0 home defeat to Millwall at the weekend with Ryan Longman, George Thomason, George Dobson, Josh Windass and Sam Smith coming in for Issa Kabore, Ben Sheaf and former Blues striker Kieffer Moore, who drop to the bench, and Libby Cacace and Matty James are out injured.

Ex-Town attacker Nathan Broadhead is among the subs having overcome a groin problem.

Wrexham: Okonkwo, Cleworth, Hyam, Doyle, Longman, Dobson, Rathbone, Thomason, O'Brien, Windass, Smith. Subs: Burton, Keillor-Dunn, Cadamarteri, Kabore, Sheaf, Moore, Scarr, Barnett, Broadhead.

Town: Palmer, Johnson, Kipre, Greaves, Baggott, Neil, Cajuste, McAteer, Walle Egeli, Akpom, Hirst (c). Subs: Button, Furlong, O'Shea, Boniface, Matusiwa, Taylor, Mehmeti, Clarke, Azon. Referee: Ben Speedie (Bootle).

Hirst missed our chances. Baggott having a 'mare and Egelli anonymous. Not looking good for the rest of the game.

Game should have been over by 8.00, but when sitters keep falling to people who look like they'll never score again, you're always going to be up against it. Will be interesting to see if we muster another attempt in the second half.

What a load of absolute tosh! Ipswich Town. Just don't enter cup competitions if you can't be bothered to compete. Wasting everyone's time. Joke!

...and for those defending that selection, I feel sorry for you. No longer dreaming of cup glory in the hope we can rest our first team to scrape back into the premier league so we can watch another season of Park The Bus. What a sorry tale.

A week ago we wouldn’t have had any of these vitriolic messages. 10 changes was maybe going a bit too far but before Wrexham scored we were the better side as we were in parts of the second half.
The alternative was to pick our 11 best players despite having three out injured and we may well have got a result with the risk of more injuries.
Who would have got the blame if we’d gone into next weeks important league game with half the squad out injured.

Gazelle the point I am trying to get across is that we have a huge squad of players mck obviously didn't want to be in the competition despite the fact that we could get a plumb tie against a prem side Sir Bobby,s side in 1981 played about sixty games with a squad of around sixteen to eighteen players not twenty five like now the pitches were heavier players not as fit as now, plenty of time until next game. Mck has now put all his eggs in one basket promotion our bust.

Like the club i lost all interest in the cup years ago. The fans should vote with their feet and stop buying tickets.
