Town Issue Statement On Farage Visit
Tuesday, 24th Mar 2026 17:12

Town have issued a statement regarding last night’s visit to Portman Road by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.

As reported earlier, a private tour of the stadium was booked with the club understood not to have initially been aware who was taking part.

They opted to still allow it to go ahead and to admit social media staff, who shot videos and photographs inside the stadium, which were released by the political party this morning via their channels.

Fans reacted angrily to their club apparently associating with and endorsing Reform with the story subsequently picked up by the national media.

The statement reads: “Ipswich Town Football Club has, over several years, hosted representatives from a range of political parties.

“The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party. The club will continue to engage with representatives from across the political spectrum as part of its role within the community.

“Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged.”

@CornardBlue The Cobbolds were one nation Tories who would have found Farage and his cronies abhorrent.

@TractorBlue00 as you brought it up, whilst Farage is not the next Hitler (certain other world leaders get the nod there) he is a Fascist and gets far more media exposure than he deserves, especially when engaged in self promotion instead of doing the job that we the taxpayers, pay him for. But I would agree with you, politics should be left out of football. This means Farage is free to come on a visit and tour of ITFC, but he is not free to use it for promotion of himself and his political ends (both of which contradict the ethos of ITFC). And yes I would be very annoyed if Starmer, Polanski or any other political leader did the same thing. ITFC should not be used for political gain, full stop.

Jammas wonder what they thought of the clown Johnson?

A non football story and over 150 comments!

Personally not bothered by this, more concerned about our next games!

Been a blue for 60 years. Don't usually join social media groups. I joined this one as Farage has used ITFC for a political stunt. He has no interest in ITFC at all. The club has been conned or Evans knew what was going on. Club needs to apologise to its fan base. How did Farage access the team changing room with shirts on our players pegs with his name on it if management didn't know?

Can the Ipswich Town FC please tell me whether they believe in democracy and if so why have they taken my post off the comment section. Just because it was an opinion that went against the grain of others ,does it really deserved to be deleted.

I think that's the email of the owners, who are probably the only people that can do anything, as the Board will expect that a few wins will make everything ok....

Be interesting to know how many new TWTD accounts have been opened in last few days to defend their right to free speech etc

Keighley I reactivated mine because I couldn't believe the ignorant comments on here. As is the case in real life these virtue signallers love to hear the sound of their own voice. Someone has to point out their ignorance and whilst its good to see some intelligent critical thinkers on here there are way more NPCs commenting.

Urbanpenguin your comment makes no sense. The whole point is that everyone is welcome equally. You don't get to pick and choose who is welcome and especially not just because you don't like them.

Sack the company responsible with immediate effect. Farage isn't fit to wear the shirt and he's made us a laughing stock.

I bet they'd have a different statement if Kier Starmer turned up.

I honestly suspect naivety rather than deliberate purpose. They really should have known better. Somebody needs a kick up the ass. But would there be such a fuss if Kemi Badenoch did a stadium tour?

The American owners run the Club not Ashton and I imagine he had to do what he was told.

Even if the club thinks it is right to not get drawn into a political row, it should give a full disclosure to all stakeholders as to how the visit was facilitated. It sounds to me that someone was either very naive when they discovered a political figure was using the club in the way he has or plain stupid. Either way the club should give the facts to all of its stakeholders. In the meantime let’s not use this Forum to create division, ironically the very thing Farage has succeeded in doing.

For the benefit of us all, captaincrunch reactivated his account because there were not enough ignorant comments on here.
It's not about "picking and choosing who is welcome", it's about not letting any political party look like it has been befriended by the club. I don't expect captaincrunch to see that, as he has his clear anti "woke", anti "NPC" (so original), and "critical thinking" (that's the most hilarious) agenda.

What a fiasco. Despite the statement issued the Club will now be widely regarded as endorsing Farage and the policies of Reform. Mark Ashton must explain how this was allowed to happen. For running towards adversity substitute bumbling towards controversy?
