Townsend Set For West Brom Return
Friday, 24th Jul 2026 09:51

Released Blues left-back Conor Townsend is set to rejoin his former side West Bromwich Albion.

Townsend was with the Baggies for six years and was vice-captain prior to his £750,000 summer-of-2024 move to the Blues.

The 33-year-old’s contract was up at the end of the season and, according to BBC WM Sport is to re-sign for the Championship side on a one-year deal.

Townsend made seven starts and three sub appearances for Town, all in his first campaign, an ACL rupture suffered in the final game of pre-season last summer ruling him out of the entirety of 2025/26.

I really hope he stays injury-free and can have a few more years as a pro.

As others have mentioned a good move for both him & wba, a solid pro who’s time here was unfortunately cut short by injuries - shame we didn’t see more of him really…

Anyway best of luck Conor

Best of luck to him. It was a real shame that he got such a debilitating injury. I think he would have been a useful member of the squad in our upcoming campaign. We're going to need a decent replacement to take some pressure off of Leif.

Very unfortunate with his injury, as I think he would have played a big part for us last season. Hope he has a couple more good years with the Baggies.

Good Luck Conor. Probably going to have company from WBA turned Town & back to WBA teammates. Expect with new keepers, 1 signed and 1 on the way then Palmer will be going back either on loan or be sold back. If we can get an experienced PL LCB to rotate with Greaves then maybe Kipre might go back on loan too? Although if we play 3 at the back then possibly he will be retained as added depth / bench option.

Gutted for him to miss last season, I saw him at Liverpool, he came on 3-0 down and looked so comfortable at PL level. The injury was a nightmare. I wish him well

I wish him the very best of luck, just unlucky. Never let us down in the PL, and will give Albion real quality at that level.

Looked really good in the games he did play, and you can tell from the behind the scenes video that he's also a really good guy. The way he celebrated the club's promotion at the end of last season despite not having been able to play was so good to see. Unquestionably the right decision for him to move on, but West Brom are getting a good one.

It's always difficult to get back to your usual sharpness after such a long time out especially at 33 years old hope he has a great season and can guide WBA back to the Premier league.

As said above shame he had injury issues because he never looked out of place playing for us when he got the chance. All the very best for the future Conor.
