O'Neil: No Update on Abraham

Blues boss Gary O’Neil was unable to give any update on Town’s move for Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham with the clubs understood to have agreed terms on a deal and the player considering whether to make the season-long loan switch.
“No update as far as I’m aware,” O’Neil insisted when asked about the situation at his press conference. “Sounds like you’re further along with that than I am. So nothing to report on that.
“We’re hopefully not finished. We’re still trying to do some business. But as to who that is or what positions that will be in, then no update from me.
“We’re still working hard to try and improve the group. But my focus now is firmly on the game at the weekend and working with a group that I’ve got.
“I’ve got to make sure that we’re fully prepared for what is going to be an incredibly tough test. One of the most handy groups in the country we face.
“I think they were the best team in the league for the second half of last season on form when Michael Carrick took over, they were an incredible force. Old Trafford is always a special place to go, always tests you.
“So for me to sit here and pretend that I’m even thinking about new signings would be a lie. I’m fully focused on the game and making sure my team are prepared to be really competitive.”
Is Abraham the profile of player he wants to bring in before the window closes? “We’re looking to bring in as many good players as we can within our financial scope.
I’m also looking to make the most of the ones that I have because of what they’ve given me over the last eight weeks since I walked through the door; it’s been nothing short of incredible.
“I’ve not seen a moment from them in any day in the eight weeks where they’ve doubted or where they’ve looked like they might stop.
“They’re just always ready to go. So like I say, my focus is making sure that group is ready to go at the weekend.”
