Nunez Released From Chile Squad Thursday, 1st Oct 2026 11:11 Blues midfielder Marcelino Nunez has been released by the Chile squad to return to Town. A statement on the Chilean FA’s website gives no suggestion of Nunez having suffered an injury: “The national team management reports that the player Marcelino Nunez (Ipswich Town) has been released from the call for personal reasons.” The 26-year-old was an unused sub during Chile’s 4-2 to the US in St Louis in the early hours of yesterday morning having played the first 52 minutes La Roja were beaten 1-0 by Canada in Toronto on Sunday, his 34th cap. Chile have one more friendly during this international break, against Mexico in Los Angeles next Tuesday. Also set to be on his way back to Playford Road is winger Abdul Fatawu, whose Ghana side has no more games during the break. They were due to play a friendly in Morocco on Sunday but that game was cancelled, reportedly due to a financial row between the Black Stars squad and their association. This morning, manager Carlos Queiroz left his role by mutual consent. Morocco, with Blues defender Issa Diop in their squad, will now host Mali for a friendly in Tangiers on Sunday instead.
