Threatening to take his ball home if the EU don’t comply

Time for a summit between UK and the other seven European nations under threat , plus EU and perhaps Canada to draw up a list of potential actions that can be taken should Trump carry out his tariff threats or invade Greenland.

Worth remembering that Trump’s threats don’t always turn into actions.

The list should cover all options including travel restrictions and closure of US bases in UK & Germany. It is always risky when you are dealing with someone as unpredictable as Dozy Donald he is just as likely to escalate as backdown.

The more isolated the USA becomes the more likely Congress will strep in, there is of course the risk of another lockdown at the end of the month.

He’s building his own ‘alternative UN’ now.

$1bn to be a permanent member and Trump controls the money. The grift never ends

Close Lakenheath and Fairford. End the lease of Diego Garcia.
Ditch all our US bonds and tell em to get fked.

If all Europe did that, the 2008 crash would look like a hiccough

Ditching US Treasury bonds would be financially disastrous.

US owes around $30T and a big chunk of that is due to be repaid in 2026. What usually happens is the money rolls over into the purchase of a new bond, kicking the debt down the road. Just to threaten not to purchase replacement bonds should be sufficient. China has reduced its holdings presumably by this method.

They won’t do it in a million years. They wouldn’t dare unless they fancy an early heart attack or a stay in ‘the big house’. Maybe they’ll take an envelope or two or ‘retire’ when threatened. Either way, a bunch of senile old Senators won’t challenge anything.

Trump is the new Julius Caesar, the ruler of all he surveys. I fully expect to see Greenland taken in the next month or two, possibly at the same time the US finishes selling out and rinsing Ukraine. Canada will then be firmly in the cross hairs. Art of the Deal? Nope, art of extortion.

In the meantime the useless Euro jelly-men will be hiding by wanging on about NATO, which died a year ago, what they might do (nothing) and try to look important while grovelling to Trump to let them off tariffs.

It’s got nothing to do with threat to America. It’s about asset grabbing and remodelling the world to get on bended knee to serve America.

Steve Bannon is one of Trump's "useful idiots".

He is an Alt Right Wing "commentator" who supported Trump early, was rewarded with a job in his first term, outlived his usefulness, was ditched, said a bit too much about the inner workings (read "chaos") at the heart of the administration, was firmly placed on the naughty list, and has been desperately sucking up and trying to be welcomed back into the fold ever since.

His schtick is that he is very well connected and knows what Trump is thinking. He is probably either guessing or parroting lines fed to him from the inside most of the time.

I'd say it's the other way around. Trump is Bannon and the MAGA movement's useful idiot. He still has a direct line to Trump and was instrumental in getting Elon Musk out of the White House.

The bizarre thing for me is that the Supreme Court is shortly to rule on the legality of Trump tariffs.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/art

In a properly functioning democracy it shouldn't have taken almost a year for such a decision.

In this country, such tariffs wouldn't have come into force until our Supreme Court had ruled on their legality.

And it does suggests weaknesses in the US constitution that Trump is only happy to exploit.

That's an interesting take and not one I'd really considered.
In reality I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle and that the relationship is rather more symbiotic.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I like Anthony Scaramucci's description of Bannon. He says that Bannon's existence is the reason he believes in God.

Scaramuccis said ""You know why I believe in God? When my faith in God is slightly tested, I think about Steve Bannon. Steve Bannon is intelligent, charismatic and very articulate. But God gave him the face and body of an alcoholic hobo to keep him out of public office and save civilization from him.

He’s been hugely influential media figure advising right wing (populist really) governments. He’s one of the architects of the modern MAGA/populist approach and was one of the earliest disinformation spreaders. He was a big supporter of Alex Jones and infowars and backed him up over the vile claims that the Sandy Hook school massacre was a hoax.

He was a mentor/adviser to Boris Johnson and a close ally of Farage. He was also supporting Epstein. Basically, there’s a good chance that anyone on the right who’s stood infront of a camera and spouted nationalist, populist bollox over the last 15 yrs or so has been trained or advised by Bannon.

He’s also a convicted felon of course, and there have been allegations of domestic abuse. The usual stuff that ties these inadequate men together.

More generally, I think there is a fundamental weakness at the heart of the US constitution because people like like judges, prosecutors and law enforcement officers have political allegiance.

When the constitution was adopted there was only one party with the Founding Fathers all honorable men. I don't think they could ever have envisaged someone like Trump who is keen to push the constitution as far as he can.

Since the first election of Trump, the US has been ranked as a flawed democracy by the Economist, but I imagine in the last year it will have gone down a notch or two, although perhaps not enough to make it no longer a flawed democracy.

I think he served time for trousering a big lump of cash from a public appeal to "Build the Wall"

Y'know, the one the Mexicans were going to pay for.

Trump made a public appeal for cash to build it, Maga retards dug deep and ponied up huge amounts of dollars which Bannon and his mates took and spent it on luxury yatchs and other millionaire fripperies

I think it's fairly telling that even Farage and Badenoch have spoken out against this from Trump. Both have been happy to take a contrary view to Starmer on most things USA themed until now.
