I made this point (less eloquently) last summer when I stated my opinion that anyone who voted for him in 2024 was a bad person. I got pushback from one or two posters but I stand by that. After the shitshow of his first time round (and that was a picnic compared to this one, the way it's going), after his attempted overthrow of democracy, his conviction for fraud and being being found liable for sex abuse... after all that, people STILL voted for this monster. Some are now coming round to the idea he may not be the ideal person to have with access to the nuclear codes, but that's only because he's beginning to hurt their own interests (whether that's through ICE, or tariffs, or investments tanking (or anything related to losing a few bucks), or whatever else). Hurting anyone else is fine and dandy. But not me, oh no.

He is what he is in his own right of course, but I think it's also true to say that he's a symptom or a consequence of the selfish, late-stage aggressive-capitalist-consumerist disease that 'Western' or rather modern tech-centric societies are suffering from (and barely aware that they're suffering from).
Our chosen (dominant) way of economic existence is bound to produce monsters like Trump - monsters on a social scale, but worse now monsters on an environmental scale.
side note: interesting hearing this morning that Labour are at least thinking about holding executives of corrupt, parasitic water companies personally accountable (fines, prison) for shameless exploitation of both society and environment in the pursuit of share price inflation - might not seem relevant to this subject, but I think the underlying theme of everything for 'self' and fk 'society' is exactly the same.
