internet says 5' 11' If we start a match with JC, JP and new boy, will the other team give up and concede us the 3 points ? oops replied to wrong person vis a vis Chaplins stature. [Post edited 23 Jan 13:02]

| Mehmeti on 12:38 - Jan 23 by Bellevue_Blue | Exactly the type of signing we should be making. Raises the floor of the team again, bags of potential at just 25 and a decent fee. Just 3M for a player who is realistically a 10M+ player. Who cares if we might not need him on the left. A great piece of business for the medium-term. |
He's played centrally this season more often than not and has improved as a player, so I'm hoping we've identified him with that role in mind. Whether this eases pressure on signing another CM, with the possibility that Nunez returns to midfield rotation for the most part.. personally I hope Nunez continues to compete higher up the pitch and we bring in another.

| Mehmeti on 12:34 - Jan 23 by FlittonBlue | KMc not one to rush players straight into the side but given the current injuries and the fact he played in front of us on Tuesday it wouldnt be a shock if he takes part tomorrow in some way (assuming they registered him in time) |
Not sure the "not one to rush players straight into the side" point is true. Leif went straight in (and had a bit of a mare). Think there are others too, but can't recall off the top of my head.

| Mehmeti on 12:59 - Jan 23 with 1467 views | tractorboy1978 | Great signing. 8 goals and 6 assists this season, a player fit, raring to go and bang in form at this level. £3m is peanuts to us these days and he has loads of potential upside in value. His value has already at least doubled just by being tied down to a 3.5 year deal. [Post edited 23 Jan 13:01]

Especially considering what £12m buys you these days.

| Mehmeti on 12:52 - Jan 23 by Herbivore | Think it's going to be tricky to upgrade in the January window so adding depth in key areas is probably the focus. Mehmeti is a top end Championship player (similar profile to Clarke I'd suggest) and he'll have the benefit of half a season getting used to how we play before we (hopefully) need him to step up and be a useful squad option at a higher level. Think there's a chance he goes on to be our main 10 as well, he can do a bit of linking play, can carry the ball, and can score. He's probably the most complete option we'll have in that role, although Nunez has done well there of late. |
No I agree, we were never going to sign oven ready premier league players this window and nor should we given we're not there...yet. I think he's every bit a Chappers upgrade, a good age, good price, and proven at Championship level. There's a lot to like about it and the downside risk feels pretty minimal given there's little doubt we could get a nice loan fee or transfer fee if we didn't fancy him 12 months from now. I'd question if he goes any way at all to bridging a potential PL gap that we might face in 4 or 5 months from now, but that's a future problem (hopefully) and one we need to earn first.

I'd suggest his market value on anything over 18 months on his deal is more like £10m, possibly upwards of that. Lots of goal involvements and a good age.

Given McKenna never likes dropping new players straight in until they get up to speed with the training. Coming on around 65 mins for the time being I reckon.

And we know that's something we massively need if we are to go up. feels like he could be sold on if gaining promotion for a decent fee/profit

Obviously loved Sarmiento for that moment, but remember being very underwhelmed whenever he started, just didn't contribute enough, even with that goal in mind, not sure i'd be keen on dropping £5m for him

Depends - with Nunez out, maybe he slots straight in tomorrow in the no 10 position?

£5m does sound a little excessive Exclude the memories of THAT season and THOSE moments ...... not sure we would know the guy to be fair if you consider his output elsewhere Thanks for the memories all the same Jezza

Not impossible, but not KMc's normal M.O. I guess much will depend on his fitness being assessed, given the demands that we put on the front four. If his fitness is naturally high he starts, if Kieran thinks he won't be able to do 65/70 mins at the required intensity, then he won't. Edit: I wouldn't be surprised to see Walle Egeli start in the 10, with or McAteer on the right. [Post edited 23 Jan 13:14]

Over on Reddit... "Estimated 3mil. City fans getting very agitated now - Mehmeti was OOC in summer but he's one of our best players. Rumours that Vyner may be off too. 600k spent in signings in three windows, and about 20mil in player sales. When will Struber get his backing?" .... "I hate this stupid f**king football club" .... "Brings it to about £15m received this window now, and all we’ve got to show for it is the loss of our best player (and 2 of his understudies) 🔥" .... You get the idea

I wouldn't get too caught up on the big/ athletic aspect. Hutch made it work and he's a smaller player. It's all about how you use your body weight at the level above to draw contact, shield the ball etc. Thats what players like Jack Clarke struggled with last year.
