Its a sad world if you cant express love for a fellow poster. He made the effort to leave his cave, its the least I could do. Anyway, thanks for yet another post about me, thoroughly appreciated. (Ps, yes thats now two additional posts on this thread, but in my defence they were in response to posts purely having a dig at me)

| Seeing reports of a knife attack in Belfast on 20:16 - Jun 9 by GlasgowBlue | Not crime related, but successive governments have been accused of massaging the unemployment figures, NHS waiting lists, spending etc. As for last night's attack. It was more than a knife attack. It was an atemopt at decapitation, which has shocked a lot of people. If you said Joe bloggs was stabbed outside the local shopping centre then most people would respond with a shrug of the shoulders. But the video, and I wish I hadn't seen it, is genuinely shocking. Unfortunately, Farage, Robinson, Lowe and co will mobilise the knuckle draggers and capitalise on this. |
Governments are often accused, but they'll also be dragged over coals when they are shown to be doing so. Just blithely 'asking the question' is just cowardly IMO though unless you offer proof. Look to MAGA, look to Reform/Restore, Tommy Ten Names, etc... and a recurring theme is questioning/rejecting official data or facts, because once you can dismiss it, you can believe the narrative you want to be true over the data. We've seen some people express it in this thread too. As for the attack, I'm not on Twitter anymore so gladly won't see the video. I fully get that the brutal nature and that fact it's recorded make it a far bigger story. It makes sense that it is the lead story in the way that other tragic stabbings/knife attacks aren't. I also know that Tommy Ten Names, Elon and all their acolytes will be whipping up anger. High profile, shocking video, black attacker and (I'm presuming) a white victim is like Christmas come early for our Neo-Neanderthal friends. Hopefully as, LHB points out, the rain will help keep numbers down tonight and cooler heads can prevail.

| Seeing reports of a knife attack in Belfast on 20:37 - Jun 9 by Kievthegreat | Stow shared a link to Fraser Nelson (someone I don't particularly care for) and he comes with multiples avenues of evidence. He uses crime survey results to show that crime has reduced by 50% in the last 20 years. He uses survey's because it captures those instances where crime may not be reported. Not a perfect measure, but a 50% fall is indicative of falling crime. He also bring in the number of murders. While someone may not report a stolen bike as they know the underfunded police will just write a report and tell you womp womp, murder would naturally have a higher report rate. This has gone down from a peak in the early 2000s (note the high point on his graph includes 173 victims of Harold Shipman which skews things slightly), but has still seen a significant reduction. Down about 40% in England and Wales if you remove Harold Shipman's victims all being counted in one year. In London, the horrific crime ridden hell hole it's down even further, the rate of murders is down over 60%. Then as has also been pointed out elsewhere in the thread, we get data on assaults and stabbings from the NHS, significantly reduces admissions across all types. Still potential that some attacks don't go to the Hospital, but I don't think over the last 20 years half of people who are assaulted have decided to just not bother with the NHS. What's actually interesting is that recorded crime, the thing you suggested they massage doesn't show any real decline. It shows a slight upwards trend in violence while surveys and hospitals say the opposite. That suggests either the crime surveys have degraded in accuracy and the NHS are somehow missing huge numbers of patients, or that the police have actually got better at recording crimes (even if they don't do a good job of solving a lot of them). Either way, I'm not sure you can safely argue there is any 'massaging' unless you've got some actual data to back it up. Link to the Fraser Nelson article. All his data is sourced under each graphic. I referred to the 1st, 2nd, 3, 4th/5th (same data with different filters) and 7th charts. https://frasernelson.substack. |
One last time. I wasn’t suggesting anything. I asked a question. A valid one in my opinion given the stunts governments have got up to in the past. Nor did I ‘argue’ anything.

You edited your post to drag me in and I hadn’t even voiced my ongoing pity for you at that stage… This is going to end the same way as every other thread you decide to slither into…. Give it a bit of little lad gob to start with…. Wild accusations of some ‘board mafia’ unfairly picking on you….. Period of quietly pointless introspection….. Pitiful whine for help and support as you realise you’ve made an enormous breast of yourself…once again… When far more reasonable posters such as Dubbers and ITFC Joe notice your behaviour, it’s probably time for a little more self awareness… I try to love you, wavers, but you’ll always be what I called you months and months ago…. A pitiful and pointless gob…on..a..stump.

He's made no points at all, just comments that are clearly veiled with right-wing thinking and dubious undertones. He's also been challenged to clarify the meaning and he hasn't, he's instead stomped off because people want him to be clearer. Pretty embarrassing to be siding with that type of behaviour but you seem to just want to pick fights with a certain element of the forum regardless of the topic or how it looks. SB

I hardly stomped off. I had work to do and didn't have time to spend the evening arguing politics with strangers on the internet. To be honest, once I'd left the thread I didn't give it another thought so didn't revisit. Having slept on it, I've realised there's probably enough division in the world already and those on here have their views and I have mine. It's pretty clear that none of us are changing each other's minds as you see what you see, and I see what I see. For what it's worth, despite our different takes on this matter, I genuinely wish none of you any harm. I have come to realise that endless political arguments between strangers on here doesn't achieve much for anyone as we all leave with the same opinion that we arrived with, just a little more frustrated than when we arrived. Take care and have a good day.

"those on here have their views and I have mine" So what are your views? I think that's the main point. Everyone clearly has the view that these attacks are heinous horrible and have no place in our society and should be condemned and stopped. Many on here think they are used to whip up racial tensions unnecessarily and that there is already much being done, which stats back up, to reduce and stop these attacks. So apart from saying what we are all saying, that it's horrible and needs to stop, what exactly is your differing opinion, for those at the back loud and clear? Thanks. Take care and have a good day.

I think you've rather proved my point for me. I wished everyone well and said there was little value in continuing the debate. Your response was to immediately demand a detailed explanation of my views so we could carry on arguing. That's exactly why I bowed out in the first place. Take care.

That's another 4 paragraphs where you've managed to write a lot but still not tell anyone what your actual views. Really don't think it's other posters that have the issue here. Acting like a victim when you offered wooly points that you refused to clarify isn't the fault of anyone else. Why would anyone be wishing anyone any harm? That's a really weird thing to write when people are simply asking you to clarify your points. SB

So you won't be joining in with any more political debates on here, or is it just this one you don't wish to give your views on? I mean, you said something about seeing stuff going in front of you but refused to explain what that was, and now you're leaving without explaining yourself. Surely you can see why people might want you to elaborate on what you meant?

That's just nonsense. If you're going to post views that can be interpreted as having a certain meaning that one is seemingly unwilling to write then it's absolutely fair for people to ask for clarity. You are just trying to shut down debate that you don't like and not for the first time. SB

No, im stating that every single "debate" (its never a debate) on these topics go the same way on here.
