Cardiac screening is now standard, ECG and often an echocardiogram (legacy of high-profile on-pitch collapses in recent years). Full musculoskeletal assessment: MRI scans on any joints or areas with injury history (hips, groin and hamstrings get particular attention given the players wear and tear), plus X-rays where relevant.
There’s a full blood panel, isokinetic strength testing on a machine that measures muscle imbalances left-to-right, VO2 max or similar fitness/conditioning testing, and a full body composition scan. Some clubs may bring in orthopaedic specialists to review historic injuries in detail rather than just taking the selling club’s medical file at face value, not sure we do this.
Finally a full review of medical notes from Leverkusen etc to make sure it all aligns. At least a day if not split over two. Likely this gets completed tomorrow or early Friday. | | | |
