| Maybe its just me 16:48 - Aug 28 with 1994 views | Cheltenham_Blue | But some of these Clarke rumours. Stoke apparently want him on loan with an option. Apart from the fact I can't see Clarke wanting to drop back to the Championship. I'm not sure these people know how much that option to buy is likely to be. | |

Never say never. I said we had no chance of signing Palacios.

Philogene is a great player. Philogene and Maeda are a quality 2 for that role. It would be exceptionally harsh on Clarke and I hope he stays. Ultimately Clarke has so much to do to his game to start Premier League games though. He has to retain the ball so much better and improved his off the ball game. But he has really good strengths as well which can help us off the bench. The squad we have put together though is fantastic. It RW we need another body. A shame Clarke couldn't make that side work a bit better.

I think Clarke is a better player than you give him credit for. His control is fine. What he does is try things. Nothing wrong in that. He was exceptional last season and at times unplayable. Example - last 15 mins at Southampton where he very nearly won the game on his own. He has the ability to find space in places the opposition doesn’t want and that happened time after time last season and again on Saturday. He made that goal look easy, but it really wasn’t. Of him and Philogene I’d keep Clarke. They offer slightly different things but are at more or less the same level. JC though is able to stay fitter and is more flexible in how and where he plays in the side. I hope we are able to retain them both, but I doubt that’s going to be possible. As an aside, somebody who’s not been mentioned is Maeda. I thought he was excellent on Saturday. He was like a Duracell bunny going up and down that pitch and was a real pain in the rear end to Sunderland. Good player.

he was fab, like tabb, but higher quality and faster, annoying ankle biter he was so close to a goal imo, needed to hold position for that Emmerson header that came across him, not his fault mind you, just the difference of a couple of seconds.

That's just opinions.im really sorry but they aren't the same level (my opinion). Philogene is a much better footballer technically. His manipulation of a football and how close he can keep it at speed and turn with it is significantly higher level than Clarke. He's also developed a lot more off the ball. He covers more ground and it's been alluded to by McKenna for example in the past how good he is at knocking the ball off people. Despite his size I think he is stronger than Clarke but debatable. Philogene can get a bit passive at times but a really high ceiling and could go to the top with the right application. He strikes a much cleaner ball than Clarke and just overall a better technician. It's not the whole argument. Clarke has a good temperament and has caused no headlines like Clarke (though broadly how he left Sunderland caused their fans annoyance as a lot of agent intervention). I like Clarke and i rate him. As I say he has strengths and can help us but he isn't a starter at this level. He can improve and he can get his game there. His technique is very unothordox and looks like Bambi on ice sometimes but he uses that well a defenders struggle to read him. A great luxury to have those 3 LW I think we can both agree on. 😂

Opinions are fun! JP might hit a cleaner ball, but the name of the game is hitting the target and Clarke is good at that. He knows how to finish. He might or might not be stronger than Clarke but fitness wise he certainly isn’t. JP has lost a lot of time with injury and that matters. Compared to most of the players of the past 20 years, it feels unreal to debate players of the quality we have now.

I would keep Clarke and sell Philogene. (If I had to sell either)

I can agree with all of that. I.would be sad to lose Clarke and right now anyway as you say he is fit and Philogene isn't. I think we keep them both and leave that decision for a year! Clarke can go on to be a bit of cult hero. He's got that 'something different' about him. They both had to be fair.
