Town were in a good place for 56mins; then an outrageous decision 18:29 - Aug 30 with 1372 viewsunstableblue

That’s the talking point

Everyone will focus on the 5 goals and Fernandez.

But everyone needs to be asking how that rule works?!

It’s two hands in the air deliberately punching down a ball to control it to enable a shot.

It’s the main headline from the game.

Handball misses the target- no handball
Handball on target- handball

Ridiculous decision/ rule, changed the entire game!

Absolutely flabbergasted that goal was allowed to stand. Dilibrate or not, he gained an advantage from a handball, then shot that led directly to a goal.

Not saying we would have won the game, but goals change games, and the game looked very different from that moment on.

I don’t think it really changed the game that much to be honest, the second half onslaught had already started.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Look we lost our shape and heads after that goal. And should have gone to the five earlier.
And of course if Nunez doesn’t slip it’s a different game.

BUT, it wasn’t a slight handball, it wasn’t a brushing of a hand. It was two arms/hands deliberately in the air to control a ball and bring it down to then have a shot.

Correct and we quickly lost the plot after that ……annoying, but not as disastrous as some are making out .

Yep, really needed to keep our lead until half time, keep the crowd restless. Not going to define the season but the capitulation will not help.

Handball is handball is handball. What happened afterwards should be irrelevant. Outrageous decision. I wonder had that been the other way round whether it would have been the same outcome!

If that had been Towns second and the winner

a) it would have possibly been allowed
b) the media outcry would be triple what we’re seeing

Seems like if you accept it was accidental handball it was a goal. However if he had scored directly or a Man U player had turned in would have been disallowed. Ridiculous rule.

One of our players tries to score that 2nd Man U goal at Old Trafford, the ref either blows his whistle immediately for deliberate handball, or VAR chalks it off, using that as the excuse; bent as hell.

Whether it was handball or not, the biggest concern was not being able to do the basics for much of the second half. We couldn't pass, mark or track. It was really worrying to watch.

So if that handball had happened in the middle of the pitch would the referee have given a free kick to the Town!

The big boys can do no wrong! With Anthony Taylor gone there is only Michael Oliver left who is any good. The rest are awful and terrified of making decisions!

We need to blame the rules not the officials tbh.

If you’re hand is not in an unnatural position or protecting your body then it’s no handball, unless you score directly from it.

Technically they got it right.

Or O’Shea does the same in our penalty area. That’s a penalty given 100%. Welcome back to the Premier League I guess.

Yeah, outrageous if that is actually the rules.

Yes they were getting on top but that changed the game no question.

Yes, we need to react better but that rule is beyond stupid.

Outrageous rule,
If it's handball it's handball, it cost us,
But to many errors at the back the others were all errors
Apart from the 5th

Totally changed the game. Pathetic rule but that's not the ref's doing. After that we were ragged. Diop and Greaves are susceptible to a ball over the top. Diop especially can get caught pushing up out of position. He did not impress me today. Emerson was not at the races and if we do not get another competitive 9 then all the great work this window could be undermined. Oh, and Dara is not a right back.
Lots of positives though. Enciso great, Fatawu has it in him, Nunez, slip aside was good. Lukic OK, Palacious OK, Maeda OK. Great goal by Leif.
Onwards.

They’re saying it’s not handball but also they don’t think it’s fair if your arm is involved and you score a goal directly from it m, so that’s the tweak they made.

It's all ifs, buts and maybe....but if we weather the onslaught for another 10-15 minutes, maybe United lose confidence, fans get restless, atmosphere changes, etc...

Man United were relentless 2nd half and deserve the 3 points. However the game turns on 2 massively unfortunate incidents when Nunez slips and the weird handball decision/rule. Man United grew in confidence with both of those and we shrunk into ourselves. Still more important to look at ourselves and how we handle those situations though as there will always be setbacks in football.

Technically I agree with you, but 'protecting your body'? From a bloody football? The only part of your body you need to protect from a football is your nuts and maybe your face. Certainly not your chest unless you're as weak as piss.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Outrageous decision as you say but we were hanging on after Mbuemo's miss of the season contender moments before.
