Never had Norwood down as an Ashton fan… 20:48 - Sep 1 with 10140 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Would be nice is he said how he really felt, and stopped sitting on the fence.

Have a feeling he may be getting a call from a solicitor or two after this podcast.

(Skip to 57 mins in…. Lasts about 10-15 mins).

(Assume this is ok to be on here?)

Just watched and was about to post, here’s the direct link instead of clicking that tweet

Whole ITFC chat very interesting.

Great words for McKenna. No surprise.

A big annoyance of that period is the calibre of player that can say they’ve played for the club. He was far from the worst but my god, what a mess we were in.

Not to bring up a touchy subject but I have a feeling Woolfenden's "politics" comment was (slightly ironically considering what happened earlier this year) directed at Ashton rather than McKenna, considering I think I'm right in saying he was happy enough to film a thank you and goodbye clip for McKenna?

I know it was before the takeover, but if he wasn’t such a tw@t during Covid, which probably left a lasting impression, then he may have been thought about differently.

He was good and would’ve been very good in a full season or more under McKenna, scored goals. Shame how it went about in the end.

What happened during Covid? I genuinely can’t recall anything apart from the drink driving stuff.

This. A lot of slagging off people at the club but no mention of some of the major reasons that we would have wanted shot of him

Yeah exactly, the guy’s legacy is being remembered more for his numerous misdemeanours off the pitch, rather than his forgettable contribution on it.

Whatever your thoughts on Ashton, his career and Norwood’s have gone in opposite trajectories.

Neither side comes out of it particularly well.

Granted Norwood certainly seems to have a selective memory but, if what he is claiming is true (and I'm sure the whole thing would have been very heavily lawyered, especially given the subject of his claims), then Ashton also comes across as incredibly unprofessional, and a fairly nasty piece of work.

Not a prophet, or a stone-age man; just a mortal with potential of a superman.

Thanks for posting.

Aaahhh Nors. For all his stupid behaviour (and some of it dreadful) I always liked him. A talented lower league striker.

And for all the class clown act clearly a clever guy. He speaks so well on KM. A 'football savant' indeed.

I'm afraid the Ashton stuff rings true to me. (Plus I'm still not over him missing me with the high fives at Lincoln).

KM's 'Bash bros' moniker always made me smile.

It's a long way from Nors to Enciso but they are connected....

He didn't score many in that half-season after McKenna took over. Wycombe and Gillingham, then not again until Shrewsbury A on 9th April and Charlton H, the final game. 4 in total.

I thought that when watching, seems quite clever and clued up really.

His problem was he was a proper ‘non league lad’ had to change his ways when he made his way up the leagues I guess, but didn’t change quickly enough.

Think that's exactly it. The banter stuff probably works really well at Tranmere but different level here and you just can't be getting away with it. Plus he obviously wound Lambert up 😅 I've got a vague memory of a rumour of him arriving for a game in slippers or something and Lambert going mental. Is that right?

Definitely clever and clued up. No flies on him. Could listen to him for hours!

This is the annoying thing about Norwood, his character makes people ignore his on pitch contributions for us. Maybe that's his fault, or maybe people should actually be objective.

He was largely good during a pretty crap period in our history, and he was often playing injured or coming back from injury. We were generally terrible when he wasn't in the squad, and then was effectively suspended by the club for about 4 months. Came back and immediately scored 4 in 4 games.

Was also McKenna's clear favourite out of the striker department across that 6 months they shared.

I am genuinely shocked anyone would find him clever or clued-up. He's pretty low rent in every department imo and what you'd expect in non-league but not for a grand old club like Ipswich Town. That was the issue and it's testament to McKenna that he managed to get what he could out of him before swiftly moving him on.
