Re-watching the game in full this morning... 11:38 - Oct 12 with 2245 viewsThatMuhrenCross

Nice looking at it with fresh eyes and without the stress and emotion of the live game. Having watched the first half so far, here are three observations:

- Maeda is everywhere. I've been a little underwhelmed with him in an attacking sense this season, but I think I'm allowing my perception to be skewed by his goal/assist output. What he offers to the team overall is unbelievable. At one point I saw Issa Diop push forward and worried when the ball got turned over, only to see Maeda had quietly dropped in at centre-back to cover. He just runs and runs. Apparently he covered almost 7km in the first half alone. He'll be crucial.

- Ouattara just oozes quality. Absolutely everything he does just looks so composed. First touch is perfect, passing is crisp, great in one-v-ones, quick, gets up and down. Honestly think he's stuck a £50m price tag on his head already, especially if we stay up. What a player! Another one in that "oozing quality" bracket is Lukic. Never gives the ball away, never seems under pressure.

- Enciso tries to do too much. Frustrating because he's clearly so good. Every time he gets the ball he's looking to produce a moment, and I just don't think it's always possible or necessary. He's either looking to take someone on, try a little flick, put a cross in or have a shot. Quite a few times I saw the better option being just to play one more pass and retain possession in a threatening area. He's good, and we need him to produce moments, but sometimes the decision making could be a little better at times. I'm sure Gary O'Neil is working on it. He's still young.

AND.... an bonus point on Fulham.

- The stats may have looked good in the first half, but my word the don't half just pass it side-to-side. No wonder they had so much possession. Sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards. Apart from a few individual moments from Josh King and Oscar Bobb, I don't really know what they have to offer. I think they're sleep walking towards relegation alongside the other certainties, Man City and Coventry. Suits us!

I think Maeda's main task was keeping Iwobi quiet and he seemed to be man to man on him for most of the game. Really hope he gets a goal/assist soon as his work rate and positioning has meant he deserves one.

"Enciso tries to do too much."

I think you are broadly right but I have to say, I have no issue with this. One of the (incorrect) criticisms laid at KM was that players were 'over coached'. Enciso is a somewhat old skool creative player. In that he will occasionally overplay or make the wrong decision.

The benefits though, far outweigh the negative and I'd rather we have player trying to 'create' than simply passing sideways like Fulham!

Somewhere between Chaplin's turn, spray passes, & being there for cut-backs, and Encisso's maverick jinks, flicks, & ball-carries is a happy medium. I hope Encisso & GON find it.

Maeda has a prolific work rate and seemed to be more effective on the right. Made several crosses into the area, but didn't find an attacker with any of them, either because he didn't look or because there was no one there. Improve on that and we have a very handy player.

Agreed. That ball to Emersonn was tasty, put it on a plate for him - no idea how he managed to miss. Not sure anyone else in the team could or would have made a pass like that.

TWTD CP. Evans Out.

It cannot be understated how big of a win Saturday was, Fulham has a Premier League side through and through, and despite where they are in the league, a lot of good players and are strong in many areas.

To come away with three points, when we're not quite the finished article yet ourselves is a huge result, it's the type of result we just failed to get last time and really does set us up well going forward. We refused to be beaten, and thats something the 24/25 side just didn't have in them post November of that season, we were passengers.

Completely agree with you and Homer on this.

I think we need to accept that many of the things that he tries will not come off, but when they do, it will be that little bit of magic we will need.

As you say, he probably should have had another assist to his name on Saturday with that world class cross, which would have been 3 in 6 games (A decent return). Add in the 6 chances he has created and it backs the point up further.

Palace had 3 points after 8 games the last time we were in this division - they finished in 12th with 53 points and won the FA Cup. Still too early to write off Fulham, all these clubs have huge reserves of quality, so we need to keep on putting in performances like that.

Enciso was bought in precisely because what he tries to do, and he's not doing too much, it's about decision making - but he will be the difference in close matches.

Take a look through our peers in the division and not many have someone with the ability plus the workrate of Enciso - not sure I want that coached out of him, it's more about experience and learning his role in the team more.

You expect sides like Villa, Fulham, Forest and co to start performing at some point.

Maeda is exactly what we needed. We are right to make sure he doesnt go unsung which would be v easy. Given Leifs weakest aspect of his game is probably the defensive side having some like Maeda ahead of him offers that extra protection, should give Leif that freedom to nomb forward as he does so well but now with a confidence that there is someone to fill in.

Sat, playing on his less favoured side, keeping a very good player and one of Fulhams (at least until this season, no idea if the new manager has changed things to impact that) outlets absolutely in his pocket.

Its not tbe sexy, exciting stuff but its so, so important. Absolutely playing for the team first. I love the guy.

Exactly. Someone mentioned Palacios had 97% pass completion. He's brilliant. But this is his job and he's world class at it.

If Enciso had that % I'd actually be worried because he's either inhabited a non human form and become a god (not impossible) or he's playing much too safe for his role.

Enciso has the talent and ability to make something special happen. He won't always get the balance right and part of his development at 22 but he is the killer pass/moments man. Egeli I see as similar in that he has probably the highest quality in the squad with his boot. Enciso is just better at carrying the ball and harassing people.

So much quality in our squad now but we shouldn't get carried away. This league is so unbelievably competitive and there is quality everywhere! Lukic underscores that point. The man is class but in someways pre signing for us we would probably have agreed he's a standard PL CM and not more. Which doesn't diminish how good he is but just how unbelievable the level is.

Teams are also wising up a bit to Enciso's ability and are trying to suffocate him out of games. That potentially opens up more space for others or different types of opportunities that enciso will need to learn to exploit

Agree especially regarding Maeda, Enciso and Outtara.

Like someone posted earlier, really can't wait for Daizen to open his account.

We are growing as a team. We have gelled quicker than our last big personnel changes. Against Liverpool we were slow out of the traps. Against Man Utd unlucky. We still have a bit to learn. It could be said Fulham had the chance to go two up. But then we did hit the post.
The comeback stemmed from a superb strike which drove us on.
We need to keep believing in ourselves as we are better than we think and could be better still.
