| So the ‘visitor’ to our FOOTBALL club claims Russia didn’t interfere…. 00:16 - Oct 13 with 12466 views | unstableblue | … In Brexit. And that Burnham is lying. When it’s proven they did. What impact their social media influence - on scale - caused to the Leave vote is of course open to interpretation. BUT - what is now emerging is that Ukraine have now bombed Russian server farms. And the level of Trump promoting accounts have significantly diminished. It’s almost like our biggest security threat - Putin - is pro Trump/Reform. It’s almost like Reform are bad for the UK?! Letting that dangerous idiot into our club to use our brand remains a stain. [Post edited 13 Oct 12:07]

Ibuprofen you say…well. I once took Codeine for a sprained ankle and ended up at a Reform conference where I hit some woman over the head with one of my Crutches. Think I got away with it though as Nigel didn’t see it.

I accidentally took a second "one a day" anti-histamine. Found myself promoting a racist political party in my "community" football club. Drug regulators really need to do a better job warning of these adverse reactions to pharmaceuticals!

Nightnurse….lightweight. My then one year old had 5ml of Calpol and ended up being the driver for some charlatan. He then said something racist and some old fella let him park on his drive. Unbelievable.

You do realise that the country has been run by right wing governments for the majority of the last 80 years don't you? And Blair's government was not very left leaning at all. So, who has been putting in all these lefty policies of which you speak? I mean current small boats problem was mostly caused by us leaving the EU. Farage doesn't mention that too much though does he?

Last week, a bloke I know covered himself from head to toe in Vicks VapoRub, and ended up in Brixton confronting dangerous criminals and disarming them of bottles of pop. Locals were shouting that he was completely menthol, but he wouldn't listen.

Yesterday I employed every single asylum seeker in the United Kingdom (on a cash in hand basis, obvs) and drove them to Paris to work as Galloways cough syrup salespeople. They've done a great job and it's cancelled our balance of payments deficit, in fact they can all afford ocean going yachts now.

The FT today had an article alleging that Trump’s team have been trying to persuade European countries to unfreeze Russian assets. Apparently a few options were suggested as possible mechanisms including handing them over to the US to ‘look after’. All under the supposed guise of getting Putin to the negotiating table. As you say, shame-free people. I’d hesitate to call Trump a Russian asset in the traditional sense (spies/handlers, etc), but that’s probably neither here nor there anyway, as he certainly represents Russian interests ahead of Ukraine’s or other Europeans. He’s an asset to them even if not formally. [Post edited 15 Oct 22:25]

Yesterday's FT also had an interview with Marine Le Pen. As well as proposing actions which could weaken the EU both politically and economically, she said that if elected President she would cut aid to Ukraine within 6 months. She is also opposed to Ukraine joining the EU and is sceptical about Russian sanctions not least because of their effect on energy supplies to Europe. She also hoped her victory would give a boost to nationalist parties in other European countries. So we could be looking at a completely different EU in the next few years, perhaps leaving as the only hope the election of a Democrat President when Trump stands down. Indeed, this may well be a distinct possibility suggesting we shouldn't assume (as some have) that the US is lost for good. [Post edited 16 Oct 8:45]

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I doubt describing somebody as ‘it’ is something you’d say to their face. There’s an ignore button to use if you don’t want to see what another poster has to say. As for King Charles, whilst I’ve seen him up close a few times, I’ve never spoken to him; don’t know him. but I’ve never been in favour of a monarchy and I am still not. Nothing personal, but the concept of a head of state just because they are born to somebody else (or in some cases related) has always seemed wrong. Yes, Republics can produce people like Trump, but that’s an issue of constitution, not principle.

Honestly, looking at where Europe is heading over the next 10 years, it feels like member states are starting to look out increasingly for themselves. The EU just doesn't offer the kind of economic or political flexibility that countries need when things get tough. Between skyrocketing energy costs, a completely changing job market, and growing foreign threats, governments are realising they have to fix their own balance sheets and protect their own people first. On top of that, look at the political reality: trying to get any collective EU deals done when you have to negotiate with the likes of Le Pen or the AfD is a logistical nightmare. It's less about 'European unity' now and much more about national survival. Frankly, given how restrictive the system is and how fractured politics have become, the idea of any country rejoining or pushing for closer alignment right now is completely crazy. Don't despair about the US.It's the last hope I have really! The US has grown 2.5%ish per annum over the last 10 years compared to European stagnation. If there was a more sensible (to put it mildly) president in the White House that is some prosperity to latch onto. There are lots of reasons that this growth disparity exists which are well worth exploring. But of course, it means access to capital is far easier in the US than in the EUs fragmented system.

Whilst he might be trying to suggest it (not least for popularity), I don't think Burnham has any intention of re-joining. At best he is looking at the removal of certain trade barriers but even on that the EU is not in practical terms necessarily playing ball despite all the fine words. And as I have said on here before, I am not sure I would want to join a club where the AfD and National Rally were in the driving seat. [Post edited 16 Oct 8:57]

Agree on that, which of course is very sensible. Would be nice if he was clearer in the way he expresses that. There is becoming less and less to align to and it's only going to get more isolationist.

I think the ambiguity is deliberate in order to win over Remainers who might have slipped away to the Greens or Lib Dems. But at the same time is has its dangers because it could fire up the vote for those opposed to the EU which still makes up maybe around 46% in polling, if one combines the votes of the Tories and Reform. And there is always the danger, if Reform continue to falter, that they will enter into some sort of alliance with the Tories based at least in part on opposition to the EU if Burnham pushes this too far
