Biblical rain greeted the end of the game and there was no second coming for us after a half an hour opening that will give many people hope. Town were good value for the lead, Uniteds head had gone and they were full of holes and doubt.
Had we gone in at half time in that position you couldn’t complain unlike Cunha, who could have had more cards than Bruno had goals. When the ref acknowledges the dive then doesn’t go back to book him, you know you’re at Old Trafford and the ghost of the still alive Fergie is looming large.
United got back into it following a slip from Nunez that can happen, the fans chanting his name at the end showed we understood that. But today was all about narrative and we have that away like we have the ball away right after half time. He had looked a different player at times today, maybe so many South American friends has elevated him here, his studs didn’t when we needed them to though.
Emersonn going off seemed to hurt us. He’s the kind of players defenders will get sick of. Chuna however is good for 15 minutes at this level, but he’s only going to hold the ball up not the whole frontline.
There’s lots to unpack today, unfairness and a baffling use of VAR right through to bad decisions from a keeper who despite conceding 5 made several good saves etc. I can’t imagine Maguire will get in trouble for deceiving an official, and it’s churlish to call United a one man team based around Bruno. But today showed up how badly we need that 9.
For all the good of this window, the lack of quality up top is such a clear issue especially with the Brazilian going off injured. United have only added more quality to a team that finished so well last season, it’s what you need at this level.
We can certainly compete, and the scoreline flattered them more than the pundits will, but there were times today when we looked to be different an animal to the last Prem team. Unfortunately they were highlights amongst a feature film that was a carbon copy of the last time we were here.
Old Trafford is an old sh1t hole that leaks more than a man of a similar age with a dodgy prostate. I hope they capitulate like we did and they finish the season unfulfilled and miserable. They can sod off back to all four corners of the country and wherever else they came from today.

Fair point, along with a CM that can put his foot on the ball, pass and dictate play, and of course it pretty much goes without saying, but a goal scoring striker, such as the Japanese international at Feyenoord that scored again this afternoon, taking his league tally for them thus far this season, to 3 goals and an assist in 4 games. |  | | |

Yep, Cunha dives seeking a pen, ref doesn't buy it, he should be booked. The slip by Nunez was hard to take and the Maguire 'handball' just baffling.
Thereafter, very ragged. Not sure Diop is impressing. Prone to getting tight too far in the pitch making us vulnerable to a ball over the top for a runner.

Scherpen, lots of good stuff for me. Kicking not great though and the penalty antics questionable.
No additional 9 through the door certainly undermines the window somewhat. Poor Chuba is just not of the quality needed for anything more than a few minutes to see a game to the end. |  |

I thought we had an almost very good first half, reacted badly to conceding - which also obviously boosted United - and couldn’t keep the ball or our shape. Having got to half-time level it was disappointing that we started the second half the same way.
The hand ball interpretation was farcical but we had already had a massive let off when Mbeumo missed from about 10 centimetres out. After that, the third goal was so soon in coming that we were done.
I thought the second half was as disappointing as the one at Old Trafford 18 months ago. We really should have taken points from both and especially after an excellent first 35 minutes today.
I think a few fans have got a little carried away on the back of our Summer signings, today was a reminder that we have a long way to go still. That has to start with a striker to challenge Emersonn - it will be negligent otherwise. |  |

It’s baffling, as it’s been bleeding obvious for a while. Surely having to play O’Shea at right back and then pushing him up high is a bit of a hint that we need another right back? Unless they’re expecting Ouattara to step up in quick time. That would still leave us a quality LCB and LB short though.
It’s still a big step up for even the likes of Leif. He had his pocket picked a few times yesterday simply by not being quick enough (of awareness, thought and execution rather than straight line speed). And he’s one most of us would think would be better equipped to cope. |  |
