| Maeda - shout out 22:55 - Oct 23 with 2006 views | Nutkins_Return | Thought he was absolutely brilliant when he came on. Turned the tide a bit as we had been seriously under the cosh. Doesn't give people a moment and was everywhere. Obviously more limited time but Matusiwa helped us get a little control as well. Matusiwa night be close to a start although Lukic should be back. I think we will be a bit careful with Palacios at times. Nice to have so much quality in CM although you could see a drop off from Lukic. He's already a big player for us. Maeda starts for me next game form sure. | |

| Maeda - shout out on 22:58 - Oct 23 with 1963 views | gainsboroughblue | He helped us get that point. Such a nuisance player for opponents, hemming them wide or back towards their own goal. Best thing about him is, he'd have still done that in injury time having already played a full 90. | |

It’s a massive shame but Philogene just isn’t PL level is he. Hopefully he can prove me wrong over the next few months. [Post edited 23 Oct 23:00]

| Maeda - shout out on 23:01 - Oct 23 with 1875 views | FrimleyBlue | Think our wing options today made the game what it became Fatawu didnt help a very advanced Outtara and Philogene didnt take advantage of rhe opportunities presented to him to go on the outside. | |

| Maeda - shout out on 23:02 - Oct 23 with 1878 views | Scuzzer | Our right side has been and continues to be an area of concern for me. Yes Outtawra and Fatawu are great going forward...but played together we tend to get caught out at the back.(Where was Outtawra for their goal?) Perhaps we have to take a more prudent selection along that side. | |

Yep. Stemmed the tide when he came on and helped us turn things around. We are a much better side when he is on the pitch.

Agree - nothing against Jaden but the conditions and their physicality made Maeda an obvious starter over him IMO.

Outtara was in the middle of the box having sprinted back and OShea was pushed out wide. The free man Nico Williams who scored was Fatawus man to mark for most of the game. I only noticed because Outtara was giving Fatawu a headache about it after the goal and another time. Think he was more annoyed that he hadn't got any warning or a shout about it whilst Fatawu was never getting there back in time. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I do know what you mean. Under Kieran we used to have that lop-sided approach whereby Leif was given licence to go forward and the back line would slide across, with a more defensively minded RB than Leif at LB. It was effective. In the Prem, Kieran seemed to ask Leif to tuck inside more, and he wasn't as effective going forward (or indeed very effective in defence at that level). The simple arithmetic that you get THREE times as many points for a win as you do for a draw has been our best friend this season (just as it would have been under Sir Bob when we narrowly missed out on the title). GON is not afraid to go for it, but understands that that would be a kamikaze approach if it were used in every single game (hence 3 at the back v Man City and executing an intelligent game plan pretty well). Given the results that we've obtained, I'm pretty happy with our approach. We're trying to be entertaining, trying to take opponents on at football, sometimes even succeeding. Would Ouattara have been in an advanced position to score his wondergoal if we had been more conservative on the right hand side? I don't know. We didn't have a great game last night. Didn't manage to turn it into a football match according to GON. The honesty is appreciated. Getting a point whilst having an off night ain't such a bad thing in this league, even at home. The fact that Maeda can deputise on the right is a blessing. The recruitment on that side has been giddy and wasteful ever since Omari. McAteer and Egeli cost all sorts of money and are not trusted. And every now and then I remember that even Ogbene is still on the books. What a lot of money has been spent, and our reserve right winger is in fact our first choice left winger. But hey, Maeda puts in a really good shift wherever he plays and we're lucky to have him. Maeda swapping over there or coming on at RW is a good option to shore us up when that approach is needed. But at present, I really don't mind going for it down the left and the right. When the goals dry up, then we can worry, but so far that's not been a problem. And goal difference doesn't matter when you have points. Points mean prizes.

Philogene lacks that burst of speed you need in the PL, his movement and tecnique is good but you do carry him a bit We don't play a style which is going to free him up all that often either, you need people are going to make fast breaks and get in behind at times Maeda, Clarke and Fatawu all at least give you options to get in behind What happened to that Jota guy Forest had a few seasons ago? He always looked pacey and hard to handle [Post edited 24 Oct 11:14]

In fairness to Philo, whilst he started very poorly; looking slow & disinterested he improved I thought we had more from him on the left than Fatawu on the right. Don't recall the latter taking his man on once which is a shame as I see that as a big strength of his [Post edited 24 Oct 11:14]

After O'Shea was pulled to the byline, the remaining back three shuffled to cover. Ouatarra was marking someone in the middle near the pen spot. The goal is largely on Fatawu who fell asleep and did not cover Neco William's run. Watch the goal replay on the highlights, it is poor

No idea why he's being written off. No pre-season. Was no worse that Fatawu. He will have better games.

Fatawu made the decision not to track back with Williams; I think if Maeda had started, we wouldn't have conceded that goal. I love Fatawu going forward, but Maeda gives us more tracking back. But it's a difficult call whether to start Fatawu and have Maeda come on as an impact sub, or vice-versa.

He totally switched off. So slow to react when Williams passes him, he must be 15 yards off him when he slots that home. You can tell by Fatawu's body language after the goal that he knows he had a stinker there.

I think Jaden appears to be one of those unfortunate payers that lives in the " Twilight Zone ". In his case, generally a bit too good for the Championship, but not quite good enough for the PL. He'd be better off somewhere like Spain, would do well there I think.

To be fair to him they had an immense press going last night and he was double manned most of the time the ball got to him, I thought he did OK as the game wore on and wouldn't be surprised to see him grow into the season. A different connection on that chance he had and it could have been a different story too.
