Clarke Linked With Blades
Tuesday, 23rd Dec 2025 09:21

Sheffield United are reported to be keen on Blues wideman Jack Clarke ahead of the January transfer window.

According to the Sheffield Star, the Blades are on the lookout for a replacement for Louie Barry, coincidentally a former Blues loanee, whose spell at Bramall Lane from Aston Villa is set to be ended early in January due to a knee injury.

And it’s claimed Clarke is among the names on what’s said to be an extensive list of potential recruits.

However, Town are highly unlikely to allow Clarke, who signed from Sunderland for £15 million in August 2024, to move on.

Despite having started only nine times in the Championship this season, in addition to 13 games from the bench, Clarke is an important member of the squad.

The 25-year-old has scored seven times, five after coming on as a substitute, more than anyone else in the division. Goals against both Sheffield sides are in that total.

Another Blues winger, Chieo Ogbene is on loan for the season with Sheffield United, but hasn’t featured since suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland last month.

Right-back Harry Clarke was on loan at Bramall Lane in the second half of last season.

That doesn’t make any sense for Club or Player.

This doesn't benefit Clarke, it doesn't benefit Ipswich, and would be out of Sheffield United's budget. Complete non-starter.

Tell them they can have McAteer instead

Not a chance ,they couldn't afford him anyway.

I wouldn’t be so quick to write this off. He’s far too good to be warming a championship bench and it’s a lot money that town have tied up in him.

There’s only a very small number of teams we could sell him to and Sheffield are one of them. They have parachute payments and probably not a promotion rival this season (although maybe is the playoffs).

I think we have to accept that he’s not quite hit the £15 mil price tag but if we could sell for £10 mil and invest that in striker. I think we would be a much better team.

No chance of this happening. I’m hoping Kieran can find a place for him in the starting 11 more often than not

Can't see any way we loan him, and if we were to sell him we would presumably want more than we paid. Are they in a position to pay £20m for him?

Cambs, I can't tell if you're being serious or not? He's been with us for barely a year, and it's currently scoring at a pretty decent rate coming off the bench. His impact is massive. To even suggest we'd sell him at a 5 mil loss is cloud cuckoo land. And we don't have to sell him to land a striker. It would just make us short in his position!

This whole story is nonsense. Let's move on.

Probably alone here but i'm still waiting to see what all the fuss is about Clarke...seems to spend most of his time playing with his alice band & shorts.

Personally i'd take the cash & re-invest it in a striker.

Compared to Philogene, JC has been a bit of a flop... He can't be happy warming the bench and an unhappy player can unsettle the whole team. Personally Id take the 15M we paid if offered, all day long.... We need a striker and extra cash for that would be a bonus....

J Clarke is part of our promotion chasing squad and will not be let go by our American owners when the Premiership is possible. Plus with a likely fee of £15m + very few Championship sides could afford that in January. Sheffield Utd are too far behind to make a challenge. If Leeds survive they would be a better team if JC is itching for a move because of playing time. Hopefully KMc and MA will control this speculation.

cambs_blue - You hit the Christmas sherry already?
How does your suggestion of losing £5m work? Do you not think he's contributing?
It would cost us more to replace him and we really shouldn't want to lose him at all.

I'm keen on seeing us add Jarred Bowen in the transfer window, what with us in need of a forward and allĺ

He’s certainly contributing and I really enjoy watching him play. I just think if the shoe were on the other foot, we wouldn’t be looking to spend 15 mil on a backup to Jaden. We would be trying to buy a striker.

We have the money but I don’t know enough about the financial rules and how much capacity we have to spend. If we have room to spend, then I completely agree that we shouldn’t be selling Clarke.

Sheffield United haven't got the money, he's 4th highest scorer in the league so would want at least £20M

hammo56 added 12:18 - Dec 23
They might be keen on him but don’t think they will be keen on the fee that we would ask for.

ArnieM added 12:22 - Dec 23
I doubt they could afford him...and hows that a step up in his career?

dirtyboy added 12:39 - Dec 23
Imagine letting him go and Philogene getting injured.

With the contributions from those two it would be ridiculous.

No way he goes. No chance.

TimmyH added 12:55 - Dec 23
I've found him a tad underwhelming since he's been here...certainly not Premiership quality and even this season always seems to be a 1 trick pony i.e. taking numerous players on without much success and the goals he's scored have been 'scruffy' ones but can see the allure from other clubs at this level.
Wouldn't bother me if we sold him for near what we bought him for...(but I'm not sure we would get that).
