Town Draw Wrexham Away
Monday, 12th Jan 2026 18:42

Town have been drawn away against Wrexham in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The draw means the teams will face one another twice in successive weeks with the Championship match between the teams in North Wales on Saturday 21st February.

Fourth round ties will be played around the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th February meaning the Championship home game against Hull City will be rescheduled.

The draw also means Town will have five away games on the bounce in February, at Portsmouth, Derby, Wrexham twice and Watford.

Town and Wrexham have met once before in the FA Cup third round at the Racecourse Ground in January 1995 when the then-Second Division (third tier) side beat the Blues, who were in the Premier League, 2-1 in George Burley’s third game as manager.

Kieron Durkan gave the home side a deserved lead on the hour, but Blues skipper David Linighan nodded an equaliser from a corner on 84 as Town thought they’d escaped an embarrassing cup shock.

But, two minutes later, one-time Town defender and future academy director Tony Humes sent in a free-kick from deep and Adam Tanner, making only his second senior appearance having scored in the 4-1 home victory over Leicester the previous week, brought down Karl Connolly in the area. Clive Baker came close to saving Gary Bennett’s penalty but the ball crossed the line off the inside of the post.

The Blues almost grabbed a second equaliser injury time but Wrexham keeper Andy Marriott pushed Adrian Paz’s header onto the bar from virtually point-blank.

Earlier this season in the Championship, Wrexham frustrated Town to a 0-0 draw at Portman Road.

blues1, no problem, it's enough to freeze anyone's brain! I wonder if it's logistically possible for the squad to stay in Wales for a week ( training facilities etc ) ? Would at least cut down on one load of travelling, and between playing and training help with some more team bonding. As for our brilliant away supporters, they are probably already laying down in a darkened room!

Although disappointed,I feel that we will be travelling around the country with a confident team.It balances January as we are only playing one away this month,I know we had an abortive trip to Portsmouth.Ironically the longest trips will be to Wrexham, twice.

Why do we never get a decent draw like a Arsenal or Liverpool at home. Always some shite away game.

Honestly I’d much rather we beat them in the league and let them go through to the next round of the FA Cup.

I’ve just got a bad feeling about injuries if we put out a strong side. I know that’s not what most people will want to hear, but I genuinely wouldn’t mind if Kieran fielded the U21s alongside a few bench players, especially during such a pivotal and congested part of the season.

Town better equipped than any other team to come away with a decent result from these five away games.

What's the matter with the posters on here?

Great draw.

An away win and another step towards Wembley.

Wrexham?

They have a team full of the players who couldn't make it at town!

I think the most important factor in this draw is that we have what I highlighted may happen if we were drawn away from home in the 4th round. That is of course, no less than 5 away games on the bounce. I hope it doesn’t, but it could hamper our league standing.

With reference to the rescheduled Portsmouth game, I was informed that both clubs have to agree to the rearranged date? If this is correct, knowing if we were drawn away in the FA Cup, we would have 5 away games on the bounce, why on earth did ITFC agree to that date?

Personally I don’t care much about the FA Cup game and playing Wrexham twice in quick succession, it’s having to play those 5 games on the bounce that concerns me. It’s not just the travelling for the fans which will be lamentable, but it will also impact upon the players. At this stage of proceedings in the league, for me, it doesn’t bode well.

@armchair critic - and even then: if we win and get another away draw on 7 March it will be 8 out of 9 away!

It Will be interesting to see where the rearranged game against Hull at Portman Road now falls!

VanDusen, hadn't even thought of that one! Well I suppose it could be even worse. Just imagine if the original rules applied and a draw would mean a replay, we'd have to fit that in somewhere as well, of course at home, but it would have been a true nightmare! I swear I can hear chuckles coming from the directions of Coventry, Middlesborough and one or two other places!

It’s worst of all for the supporters. Ridiculous schedule, but at least Derby on 7th isn’t so far away then we’ve 7 days clear to the FAC game and another 7 to the league game. Can hear KMck saying “just one game at a time”. Talking of which we have a run of winnable games before Wrexham. We could be top of the table by the time we go to Wales!!

Frustrating for the fans but if we can't battle through & win games like this along with away games in the quantity we face, then we'll struggle in the Premiership once again. This run will show if we're ready.

Wrexham will roll out Mickey bloody Mouse & turn it into a crass B list Hollywood festival of bad taste

I should think that 95% of Town fans groaned when that draw happened.

Not great for travelling fans, but, as above poster, 7 days between games.
In this day & age, professionally sports persons should never be having a problem with those sort of travel distances over those time scales.
