McKenna: Philogene Still Out, a Few Issues From Saturday
Monday, 9th Mar 2026 09:53

Town will again be without forward Jaden Philogene when they travel to Stoke City on Tuesday evening, while manager Kieran McKenna says there are one or two other issues from Saturday’s draw with Leicester which could impact availability.

Philogene has been out of action since the middle of January with an MCL injury, suffering a setback just as he was closing in on a return in late February.

“He won’t be involved for this game,” McKenna said. “Hopefully, he’ll start team training this week.

“He’s working with the coaching staff a little bit now, but not with the rest of the team, so hopefully he’ll get back to that level again now at some point this week.”

McKenna admits he’ll have a selection headache on the left when Philogene does return with Jack Clarke and Anis Mehmeti both impressing in that role in recent weeks.

“It’d be great to have Jaden back, the Blues boss continued. “We have good players in those positions, but you’re always going to miss someone with Jaden’s quality and the different qualities that he brings to the role, so it would be great to have him back.

“And you look at the fixture list, and, of course, after yesterday [Southampton progressing in the FA Cup], there’s another game to be rearranged, so we know how demanding the schedule is going to be and we’re going to need lots of options, availability being really good, and lots of quality to get the results that we want.”

Regarding how the team came through Saturday’s game against Leicester, he added: “We have a few issues from the game on Saturday, it’s still early on Monday morning, so a few will be assessed today.

“We may not have as strong an availability as we have for the last couple of games, but we won’t know that until certainly we get through the back of today.”

Sorba Thomas out for Stoke which is great as he’s been the Potters best player this season

Sadly Philogene is probably the only player in the squad who has special talents. Clarke and Mehmeti are both excellent but Philogene offers goals from distance when teams are playing a low block. He is a huge loss make no mistake.
Must win games now just to stay in touch with the top two. COYB

Marinersnose, agree with this. We have some superb players, Philogene however for me offers that something really special that can transform or win a game in a blink of an eye.

I wonder if Leif might be a doubt? He pulled up of the ball at one point towards the end of the second half.
He carried on but I'm not sure how comfortable he looked.
Probably reading too much into it. He's a fit lad and hopefully ok.

Nunez pulled up with hamstring twinge during the first half, so he's probably out again.

I'm inclined to go withe the super computer which predicted that Town would finish third. Who will they play is the question? Southampton will not be helped by the FA Cup success but still looks set imo to pass Wrexam (sp) into the last six.Town would not beat the Saints if they are at full strength but might just sneak through if they are not.

Philogene is a miss but his away form is not good which is a mystery. Davis was struggling in the last ten minutes on Saturday. Nunez hasn't been at his best since he came back from his last injury. Neil is a good player but he struggled on Saturday with the physicality of the Leicester team and i expect Jack Taylor to be recalled on Tuesday. Goal apart Egeli showed signs of improvement on Saturday but as Jack Clarke knows it's much easier coming on later on when the pace of the game has dropped off a bit.

Philogene hasn't special talents away from home that's for sure - 1 assist to his name! (not good) and he's been out for 2 months with a 'knock' as we were first told, the boy needs to get in the gym in the summer (build up his quads to protect his knees).

Given Stokes problems both form and players out wise, we have no real grounds for complaining. Sure it would be nice to have JP fit and raring to go, but we are not exactly short of quality replacements.

We will hopefully get JP back for the big home matches coming up, Millwall and Boro games are massive. He hasnt really sparked away from.Portman Rd...maybe thats a bit harsh as he has been superb at home.
