Blues Linked With Palacios
Saturday, 1st Aug 2026 18:48

Town are reported to be showing interest in Argentina international Exequiel Palacios.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues and RB Leipzig are both keen on the 27-year-old, who is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen after six years.

The midfielder, who began his career with River Plate in his home country, won the World Cup in 2022 and was in the side which lost this year’s final last month. In total, he has won 41 full caps.

Palacios is contracted to Leverkusen, with whom he won the Bundesliga in 2023/24, until the summer of 2030.

Sorry Dub Chief...I meant I am still in for him. This quality. We would suddenly be challenging Leeds and onto the next category Fullham the other Mid Tier London Clubs.

Do it.

Never thought I'd be sticking up for an Argentine player regarding discipline, but he was no thug at the World Cup, played for a total of 90 minutes only and received no cards. A model temperament! I don't condone any of their darkest arts, but if we'd shown some of their grit, determination and sheer bloody mindedness in not accepting defeat, we'd have made the final at least.

This is hilarious.
All those who don’t want an Argentinian at FPR. Sell your Mercedes, BMW or Volkswagen. Chuck away your Sony, Panasonic or hitachi electronic stuff and never go to IKEA because the Scandinavians were pretty nasty to us in the 10th century.
Do that or be total hypocrites.
Jeez - The mind boggles

Players like this are needed, he's just been quite injury-prone.

I think this might be a little bit too ambitious for us but if it can be done im all for it.

If he has recurring injury related issues or weaknesses it’ll come out in the medical as it did for Morita (?). I just hope we can get far enough down the line to give him a medical. This could be our granit Xhaka type of moment..

Earning £125k a week so that’ll be interesting. Probably agent lead propaganda

I definitely do not condone the actions of the Argentine squad at the WC, they were atrocious. However, if rumours are true, and we are interested he would no doubt be a very good addition to the squad.

When looking at the likes of Fernandez of Chelsea, he did not do a lot of those types of behaviours during the last Prem season. This would suggest that it was more a decision pertinent to the AFA, Scaloni and the Argentine squad.

Maybe the reason Palacios does not get as much game time for the national squad is because he doesn't have that mentality? People are also happy to have Enciso back, in spite of the way Paraguay played against France.

If it happens I will be happy and support him, if it doesn't I will be happily supporting whoever pull on the badge.

Well, he seems to be a defensive CMF and we seem poised to sign Florentino Luis, so it might just be a little moot but as ever it's interesting reading people getting their alans in a twist for the sake of a fella's country of birth because of what he personally didnt do.....aren't we an interesting bunch

cardinaldom88, the Argentine football squad have had a certain reputation going back as far as I can remember in the early to mid 60's. Indeed it was Sir Alf who dubbed their World Cup squad in 1966, " A bunch of thugs ", and I " fondly " still remember one of them today, who actually died just recently. This does not of course mean that every Argentine footballer goes around assaulting grannies, neither does it reflect on the people in general. So I agree totally with what you say in all those paragraphs. But as Bazza points out above, it looks rather like a moot point now.

MickMillsTash - Agree with everything you've said. Quite astounding so many disagree with you. We shouldn't welcome people who hate this country, we should welcome those who love it.

Love the references to Mauricio Taricco on here!! Our very own Cucurella type character.....

I thought he was great, a bit naughty but a cracking player...had some skills to go with it. If Leif Davis could get a bit more of that side of his game, and learn to defend too, he'd be awesome.

A bit of bite and some skills to go with it is exactly what we need. We shall see whether this is agent talk, trying to attract attention or not, in due course.
