Ashton: A High Performance, Elite Facility
Wednesday, 7th Oct 2026 18:43

Blues chairman and CEO Mark Ashton has filmed a video giving a tour of the club’s new training ground building, which opened at the start of the season.

Work had been been ongoing at Playford Road for just over a year on the new facility, which cost around £30 million.

“Delighted, really proud,” Ashton told TownTV. “It's been a project that we've been working on literally since day one when we joined the football club.

“To have it completed, to have it operational, to have the team in it, I think it's a great day for the football club.

“It's been delivered on time, on budget and to say that we've built this amazing facility without losing one second of one training session over the last 18 months is an incredible achievement by a number of people.

“I'm so excited today that we can actually start to show the world. It’s been operational now for probably a good month or so, the lads have settled in well, the staff have settled in and I think it's going to be a key performance indicator for us moving forward.”

He added: “I just think the environment that we've now created is a real high performance, elite facility that's going to enhance the team every single day.

“The club has been desperate for something like this for decades, so we've now done it, it's open and we're fully operational.”

Excellent. Something else to be proud of.
Well done Mark. You have had a hell of a preseason and a hell of a time producing this training ground.
Go and lay down for the rest of this week before you look into who we will need to get in in January.

All I can say is, wow! Very very special. My key take from that is, if top players from around the world are arriving here and saying it's a world class facility, then given some of the places they must have seen, it most certainly is!

Wouldn't have been the same without the coffee mug or the Costa Coffee gag, though :)

So much to take in there. But those urinals with player selection and hydration analysis for urine analysis which is also recorded at the office. That’s crazy! Ha

Absolutely superb training facility. The canteen didn't seem to have the WOW factor maybe they just eat and drink and then get back to their daily routines. Interestingly there was no relaxation zone; all work and no play. Well done all concerned from planning to completion. A World class setup. I do like the Ipswich Town Watt Bikes
