O'Neil: I've Not Given it a Second's Thought
Friday, 9th Oct 2026 16:59

Blues manager Gary O’Neil says he’s not given the furore surrounding Manchester City a second’s thought.

During the international break an independent commission found City guilty of all but one of the financial charges they were facing with the club subsequently lodging an appeal.

At his lunchtime press conference, O’Neil was asked whether he would be watching Manchester City’s Sunday visit to Liverpool with added interest given the events of the last few weeks.

“No, not with added interest,” he said. “I love watching the best sides in the world play, so Liverpool-Man City is always a game that I would try and watch if I was around.

“My little boy’s actually got Ipswich in the U13s, Premier League Cup as well Sunday, here, so I’ll get a day at work on Sunday, which is nice - get to come back to the office to watch my little boy play.

“I love watching those sort of games, but I guess you’re sort of making reference to some of the noise around Manchester City at the moment, but that doesn’t change anything for me. Just be looking forward to watching two good teams going at it on Sunday.”

Pushed further on what he made of the City story, he added: “Nothing really. You guys probably know me well enough already to know that I’ve spent the last three weeks trying to make sure that we’re ready for Fulham.

“I’ve not paid too much attention to it. It’s not something that I’m involved in or want to be involved in. Leave it to the guys that are involved in it, Manchester City and the powers that be, to come to the right conclusions and we focus fully on Ipswich and making sure that we’re ready for the games that are coming up.

“We have an excellent five-game block here that we can attack for the next five weeks and see what we can put on the table.

“I’m not going to be distracted. I’ve not even given it a second’s thought, to be honest, just making sure the team’s ready to go.”

Can his son transfer to our Academy? Surely makes sense as he's living in the area.

When a side like Man City wins multiple trophies year after year, you have to think what their secret is. Deception. At long as Town follow the rules we will get rewards eventually. GON is the next step. Three points against Fulham will prove we are better than the last Prem campaign.

Very wise words from G O'N, just concentrate on ourselves and ignore any outside noise. Everything else will take care of itself, though when is anyone's guess!
