Looked a cracking little player at West Ham. Born in Sudbury, 23/24 years old, brought in for £750k by John Lyall from Celtic who knew a good footballer when he saw one. What was not to like? A steal.

Cameron Stewart is a great shout. Signed at a time when the overall squad was solid but needed some flair on the wings, it looked like he would fit the bill with decent experience at Championship level. Visions at that point of us morphing into Mick’s successful Wolves sides with Kightly/Jarvis on the wings

Record signing with great things expected but for me never lived up to my expectations. Decent enough player, but given that SBR didn't sign many players and that he came here as our record signing I was expecting him to come in and make a great team even better. But it never happened and sadly he neverr really tied down a regular starting slot - which for a record signing was disappointing. |
Had a very bad injury to be fair, which kept him out of the biggest game of his career; deliberate too it was. Hard to come back after that. |  |

Interesting you say that about Royle. I had a good chat with an ex-player a couple of months ago that said Royle was utterly useless as a coach. Literally had zero interest in coaching and left it all to Willie Donachie. Great man manager though. |
I always felt that Royle's binning Gardsoe off was a bad sign, especially when his ideal replacements were Diallo and Santos.
I can't remember who did the podcast with Parkin a year or so back but the gist was Royle sold the move here when he had other options, which was the good side of him but then had no interest in developing him as a player. He regrets being too young to push for more.

I’m not sure there was much to develop with Parkin. He moved like an overladen oil tanker. You can’t put pace into a player. Basically, his natural level was League 1 or 2.

I think Sam Parkin has had a bit of a rough ride in this thread. His problem was none of his goals (admittedly only 5 in 20 or so appearances) came at Portman Road but I remember him tearing Leeds apart at Elland Road. He broke his ankle soon after and that was pretty much the end of him at Town. |  | | |

Great shout. He was a proper player and when you looked at what Bolton did with Okocha, Djorkaaeff etc you thought thats the start of that for us and well it wasnt and he wasnt really. A couple of real moments but compared to what we thought we were getting . |  |

We've also seen others which i thought were capable of more than they provided such as JET, Chops, scowie on loan, kuqi on loan 2nd time
But i'm opting for Omari as the biggest disappointment, not due to his performances overall while playing but for his pathetic attitude when forcing a move last summer. Perhaps it's the way of the modern game but a player should never refuse to play for a club that's paying his wages as that is disrespectful to all at the club | | | |

Priskin and Martin are definitely up there for me but I'd say I was just as disappointed (If not more so) with Grant Leadbitter. We paid two and a half million quid for him and I really thought he was going to be the difference maker for us.

The thing is that did these two really disappoint? Chopra’s ‘issues’ (to be kind about it) were well known and it was never going to end well. Best’s career was already down the plug hole and half way round the ubend when a punt was taken on him.
Now O’Callaghan and Bullard certainly were a disappointment. For Robson’s most expensive signing, it just didn’t work out. Bullard did work out as a loan player. He was excellent. Then he got a contract and Captain Disappointment sailed into view, though not for every takeaway and boozer from Dartford to Ipswich (allegedly).
I couldn’t believe it when he waddled out for the first game of the season. I thought he was wearing a fat suit for one of his jokes. Now that was disappointment. | | | |

Jon Nolan.
Thought we'd signed a dynamic, technical number 10 who would score goals from 20 yards and generally be creative.
He chipped in with goals and was a steady footballer, and he was unlucky with injuries. But he wasn't what I thought he was going to be. Ended up being one of many players we had in League One that we couldn't rely on from a fitness or physicality point of view. I put him alongside the likes of Dozzell, Bishop and Gwion in that sense. | |
