Its going to be bloody horrible in the stands on Monday, isn't it? 10:21 - Apr 1 with 7393 viewsDubtractor

Not massively looking forward to it tbh.

Was hoping to see some of Ashton's bridge building before now tbh, as it really needs something to take the edge off it.

Such an unbelievable own goal.

Will go one of 2 ways.

I think you either you get a fanbase who come together to get behind KM and the players or you get a bunch of scraps in the stands over reform related business.

An early goal feels important for more than football reasons here.

Think you are more likely to get issues at Away games. I think Norwich could be really bad in the Away end.

What has happened?

The whole thing seems to be dying down. I would be surprised if it gets more than 1 minute of attention.

Yes. I’m debating not going as the first chorus of “stand up if you hate Reform” is going to cause stand up rows in the stands. “We want Ashton out” will be booed as soon as it happens.

I sit next to the away fans in the SAR lower and the Brum fans will have a field day with this, that alone will be intolerable.

it will be fine. most people see watching football as a chance to take a break from stuff like politics.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Strength of feeling on my side remains high but if I was going on Monday I would get behind the team in the stadium and just pray nobody starts any divisive chants.

I would also attend the protest first if I was going.

It depends what happens on the pitch. If results aren't favourable Friday and we go behind to an early goal on Monday then I can see things getting toxic.

If we take an early lead then I think most people will be focusing on the football.

I think if the team starts well then that takes precedence but there’s been an undercurrent of anger and a lack of patience around all season so going behind would probably bring that out too.

Don't think it'll be all that, people tend to be more outspoken online than IRL. There's only really small pockets of people who start chants on matchdays full stop. I'd be surprised if there's any overtly political chants either way.

It doesn't kick off most weeks even when a substantial minority of supporters abuse the actual team we support, doubt it'll kick off over this.

Can fully support KM & players while calling for the removal of Ashton. Nothing "toxic" about preferring the club isn't run by a liar. Ashton is detached from the playing side. Most people want him gone. Don't forget nearly half the squad is an ethnic minority. Polling shows nearly 80% of whom **hate** reform. Phil's word from the players suggests they might even be relieved and supportive that we aren't letting this slide.

Fans are generally a predictable bunch. I suspect that’s exactly how it’ll go. Similarly, if we get promoted it’ll largely blow over but if not it’ll all kick off. I can’t think of a case of fans kicking off when their team is doing well.

I'm not really sure what will happen. There have been the "George Hirst hates Palestine" and "Keir Starmer's a w@@ker" chants even before this. We all know where those chants come from and I can only assume that those who partake in them feel emboldened by the actions of the chairman.

At the same time, we're quite a placid bunch at the best of times. If we go a goal down I can see it getting nasty. Considering that this is in our top 5 best seasons this century, people have been edgy and grumpy all year!

Which is no different to how the crowd has behaved pre Faragegate to be fair. It's felt like the new normal since we got promoted, sadly.

Getting back to being a football club and not Reform FC isn't up to us. The top of the club was happy last Monday for it to be true that "Nigel Farage, he's one of your own", and while Ashton is still in post, there'll be a grain of truth to the away fan chants. This only ends one way: "Mark Ashton, he's gone from our club".

Hard to tell. My feeling is there will be a big getting behind the team at the start as a kind of response and it may well pass without any incident. We can be quite sedate as a fan base.

Problem is Brum are loud, it's a big game so that might ratchet up the atmosphere. Hard to say how crowds will turn.

If anyone starts Nigel Farage chants that will not be good.

I was feeling apprehensive but am now really looking forward to going and being able to focus on the football rather than the events of the last 10 days. The players will be very aware of the fans anger and division and it could act as extra motivation for them to put in a really big, strong, statement performance. We could all be calling it an Ashton master stroke come 5pm on Monday :-)

How about a chant going up in response to any political chants along the lines of
“We’re only here for the football, here for the football, here for the football”
Followed by “ Blue army”
