When we voted for an MP we delegated the responsibility for choosing the prime minister to them, it's part of the gig.

Actually yes It was bloody stupid. We had a new PM every 2 weeks Politics needs complete overhaul in this country. From the voting system, to Parliament representation models to the civil service The current system is broken and does not represent a modern society IMO

Although it seems to have calmed down a bit in recent years the Italians were constantly changing prime minister due to their coalition government’s.. how anything got sorted there I don’t know but maybe the machine of government kept moving… much like Peru famously 10 president’s or so in the last decade but the economy and growth the best in Latin America. One thing that does bug me about Starmer and to be fair there’s not many he seems like a genuinely nice guy… just a bit crap at PM and politics .. is when he goes on about his mandate … 1. It’s the parties mandate and 2.it’s mandate gained mainly by the tories even if you love them having lost any right for another term for so many reasons least of all time for a change. Fair enough if you're consistent on the point, however as it stands this is the way it is. Certainly a case for electoral reform. SB

| Burnham wins Makerfield on 08:32 - Jun 19 with 726 views | baxterbasics | Pretty comprehensive. Does suggest Reform may have peaked, whether you lean right or not I think people are noticing they are not fit or ready for power. Although the argument that a lot of people voted Burnham who wouldn't normally vote Labour probably has some credence too. I wonder which Burnham will eventually become PM - the Blairite version who improved Manchester by offering regulation and tax breaks to encourage private investment, or the Burnham that said wants to nationalise most of the economy and regulate what is left into the ground. Because booo Thatcher, or something. | |

It is helpful for your clarification because in your earlier post you didn’t mention your dislike for Her politics Her public persona Her approach to decision making Her continued refusal to engage with the rape gang enquiry’s Her questionable tax records In fact, all you referenced was Her hair colour Where she came from I’m sure you can see why people thought that was a bellend move .

It’s quite the tightrope he’s going’s to potentially need to tackle… too far or even the suggestion of it either way he’ll lose anybody still left but the centrists and they may end up themselves going into some alliance with the lib dems… or even the tories.

It will be another Burnham, because he has grown and matured as a politician. People do tend to change over the years as experiences happen and are reflected upon. The value of being mayor of Manchester will undoubtedly have value when it comes to being the Prime Minister of a state of four nations, much bigger job though and it will require a lot of adaptation on his part. But there is a precedent of the relatively new role of mayor of a major city in the United Kingdom becoming Prime Minister... Oh feck.

They have shot themsleves in the foot by bringing in the likes of Jenrick, Braverman and Dorries, Farage is finally showing his true colours and people are waking up to the fact that he's a self serving charlatan.

Poor performances in by-elections now that people have the chance to scrutinise a candidate and realise he is actually a pretty dodgy chap. With 3 more years of scrutiny you might think that Reform have got as far as they can. I think we may begin to see them slide in the polls, or at least I hope they do.

The problem is they need experienced politicians as the cohort they manage to find that will stand in elections completely fall apart when under the smallest amount of scrutiny.

Burnham did suggest during the campaign that he'd introduce PR as soon as possible. Arguably, the willingness of progressive voters to vote tactically makes it less important, though that becomes a gamble in a general election. I was wondering if it might be worth trying to set up a Reform-lite party, with a Swiss-referendum-style limit on population, fir example, but just to split the right wing vote still further

Hopefully any future rape gang enquiry will highlight the contemptuous attitudes some people continue to hold towards working class white women.
