For what it is worth, the MOTD analysts, Shay Given and Ellen White, both felt Maguire deliberately handled the ball and thus should have been a free kick to us regardless of whether it was an own goal or not. Watching it in slow motion made it very clear.

That is still unclear whether VAR checked the handball and deemed it accidental (or more accurately, not a foul) or if VAR didn't check the handball and waved through the referee's on pitch decision of accidental handball. [Post edited 30 Aug 23:37]

Surely the ref saw the hand ball, should gone to the monitor and checked whether it was intentional or accidental.
