… In Brexit. And that Burnham is lying. When it’s proven they did.
What impact their social media influence - on scale - caused to the Leave vote is of course open to interpretation.
BUT - what is now emerging is that Ukraine have now bombed Russian server farms. And the level of Trump promoting accounts have significantly diminished.
It’s almost like our biggest security threat - Putin - is pro Trump/Reform.
It’s almost like Reform are bad for the UK?!
Letting that dangerous idiot into our club to use our brand remains a stain.

Even I had to remind myself who Michael Marra is but then again Scotland gets precious little coverage down south.
And I suppose the question arises as to whether there would have been the current social care system in Scotland had Labour been in power these last two decades.
More or Less is a great programme, as is Sliced Bread.

Another good take from Brilo.
Some reflections on UK resilience post Iran.

As well as being the new leader of Scottish Labour Michael Marra shares his name with his uncle, an idiosyncratic but much loved singer, now sadly departed.

Yes, when I searched the name, I realised I recognised him from a photo that came up only to realise it was the wrong Michael Marra.

It can seem like Michael Marra is to Dundee as Tommy Smith is to Ipswich Town...
Talk of Dundee reminds me of the time my mother and a couple of girl friends missed the last train back from there to Newport on Tay where they were living and had to walk back along the Tay Bridge.
Knowing how straightlaced my mother was, that was a pretty wild thing for her to do.

“Proven” ?
Do you know more than the MI5 chief then? You know, the guy that’s literally just come out and said the comment was a complete lie.
Kinda sounds like brexit derangement syndrome lives on pretty hard within you!! Time to move on and stop clutchin’ ..
Say what?!
I said Russia interfered in Brexit, and so:
- Sir Ken McCallum, current MI5 chief: On 13 October, he confirmed that Russia had attempted to influence the referendum through social media activity and Russian state-backed media, including RT and Sputnik.
- Sir Richard Moore, former MI6 chief: In an interview with LBC on 12 October, he said he was “very confident” in Burnham's assertion that Russia had attempted to meddle in the referendum.
‘Brexit Derangement Syndrome’?! repurposing a term used to imply that (sane) people calling out Trump for being literally the worst political leader in our lifetimes are mad. Nice!

I wouldn’t say Trump is the worst political leader in our lifetimes, not even close.
My interpretation is that Burnham said something unclear about Russian interference. Sort of proven by the need for clarification. We probably need to get used to that with him Though, as his run rate is about one gaff a month so far.

I think you’ve misunderstood what Ken McCallum said. What he actually said was that it’s clear Russia has been meddling in our democracy and did attempt to influence the referendum. He said their attempts were likely unimpressive but didn’t say Burnham’s comment was a lie. Again, what he actually said is to not amplify the issue which would play into Russia’s hands.
Russian interference is very well known, as shown by countless evidence from researchers, Nathan Gill’s bribery, using Russia Today to twist narratives, and political reports including the Parliament’s 2020 Russia report that Johnson fought tooth and nail to delay and bury.
Denying Russia tried to interfere with our politics just supports Russia. It shouldn’t matter what the issue is, whether its referendums, general elections, sending operatives to kill people in Salisbury or just continually meddling in our national social commentary online.

Well done Swanners, a sober and rational summing up - but what on Earth are you doing bringing the thread back on topic for at page eight. Surely we should all be engaged in a factional bun fight regarding a minor personal insult by now ?

Yes quite, it’s obviously true there have been worse recent leaders. Pol Pot, Mugabe, al-Assad etc may have a slightly better claims than Trump lol. Trump would be very high on the list of non-dictator nutjob list though. There aren’t many in ‘normal’ countries who’ve caused the damage he has.
The issue with Burnham’s comments as I see it is that it makes the security services very nervous. The Russia report highlighted how reticent they were back then to have any role in our democratic processes and were called out on it in the report. Better to keep spying and democracy separate so as to not tarnish the image of democracy nor over complicate the spying. His comments shouldn’t be a surprise; we’ve known Russia have been trying to interfere with those countries they see as threats for donkey’s years.

More from the party that wants to protect our women.
Exclusive: Reform mayor Luke Campbell is under police investigation for allegedly cyberflashing a female member of staff
Campbell, an Olympic gold boxer, is accused of having shown a a senior female officer four fully “naked and sexualised images” of himself

I suppose it depends on the yardstick.
But if one is talking about the adverse impact of one leader on the entire world economy because of things like sanctions and the prolongation of an unnecessary war in Iran, no one comes close to Trump in my lifetime.
The saving grace is that the US is a democracy and he won't be here in a couple of years or so's time. And there is no one waiting in the wings who is so self-centred, bombastic or mercurial.

Parliamentary/political sleaze has been well reported for decades, if not centuries. All the main parties have had widely reported issues over that time. The difference this time being that reform, it's leader, MPs, councillors and supporters are promoting themselves as the next Government in waiting. It's right and proper that the unpleasant spine that runs right through their party is seen for what it is. You have consistently stated your opposition to reform and I have no reason to doubt that, but the response to Dubbers does feel a bit "yeah, but". I'm not sure why in a thread that is highlighting the huge shortcomings of reform anyone would want to draw attention to other parties shortcomings, when we should all be uniting in condemnation of them. If we don't unite, we may well indeed find ourselves sleepwalking into a reform government. I don't think you want that any more than I do.
"Look, I don't wanna be the same as everybody else. That's why I'm a Mod, see?"

I see what you're saying about Reform, we definitely don't want them in power.
I posted those links because of the claim that I was cherry picking higher up in the thread, it's exactly the same thing to post about individual Reform candidates. Dubbers is generally reasoned in his responses, but again further up he described one of my posts as 'pathetic'.
I want to take Reform on about the arguments and policies, rather than on individuals and their behaviour. It's the part of the reason that Reform are where they are in the polls. Consistently labelling part of the electorate post-Brexit has been a terrible strategy and continually backfires.

I didn't describe anything in this thread as pathetic. It was your post about Russell Brand being a left wing idol.
Tbh your posting in this whole thread though has been a long stream of 'yes, but what about this.....'
