| Great result. Ashton out! (n/t) on 10:49 - Apr 12 by Churchman | Is that an attempt and belittling, contempt, condescension or just plain rudeness? If you have ever read my posts you will know that respect for others’ views most things is something I’ve always embraced. As is basic curtesy. The irony is that the ramming of a viewpoint endlessly day after day could be interpreted as not understanding that some people won’t necessarily have the same viewpoint as you. And if they do, they might be getting bored with hearing what they already know and agree with over and over. People are free to post the same message every 10 mins if they wish. Personally, I’m just a little sad some couldn’t take time out and enjoy yesterday purely for what it was. Up to them. |
Just the realities of the situation. If you by “ramming of a viewpoint” you mean, still discussing and posting about it until an adequate outcome or answer has been given, then I’m totally fine to be characterised as “ramming” it. I think you’ll find earlier in the thread i quite clearly state that clearly most are happy to let this lie (no pun intended) and that it’s obvious that people like myself who actually care about Ashton inviting a quasi fascist for lunch, lying about it until he was caught out and then giving an embarrassingly poor ‘apology’, are in the minority. I accept others personal points of view, but that doesn’t mean I forfeit my own, nor does it mean I won’t be discussing it and making it known repeatedly how I feel about the matter. I loved yesterday, enjoyed it immensely, but that’s a total aside from what we’re discussing here and conflating the two is disingenous.

| Great result. Ashton out! (n/t) on 14:07 - Apr 12 by waveneyblue | Thought i would pop on and enjoy yesterdays result and can still see the same old names banging on about the same old subject, even though virtually all of the sane world has moved on. To see decent posters like Churchman being patronised by the boards most sanctimonious arse is yet another low point in this saga. Anyway, I guess you mad bunch have to keep shouting about it on here because it must be really upsetting to see the incident fade away without the witch burning that you craved. Im off again, this place is still ruled by about 10 of you and its obvious that it will never change. Shame really Up the blues, looks like this season might end up being a success, who wouldve thunk it. |
there's been loads of posts about the game and how great it was, whilst remaining angry about the ashton debacle. you've posted once, just about ashton, is this a trend with the ashton apologists or just yourself? why not post about the game or join in one of the hundreds of threads discussing it, rather than just coming on to give out abuse?

| Great result. Ashton out! (n/t) on 11:22 - Apr 12 by The_Flashing_Smile | It doesn't mean our sponsors aren't happy and future deals will be affected either. If there's no evidence either way (yet) then I'm not sure it's fair to list it as an issue. |
It’s been reported that at least Ed and Halo were shocked at the stunt and pissed off. I’d be very surprised if that’s not true, as you’d expect them to counter anyone making things up about them. Plus it’s believable. Farage is one of the most divisive and unpopular politicians in the UK, so it’s hardly a surprise that people wouldn’t want us to be associated with him.

So, I’ll ask again - was the post before an attempt and belittling, contempt, condescension or just plain rudeness? On the day of a team beating their rivals on a football away for the first time in years ‘Ashton out’ in the title post is discussing it is it? Not in my world. It’s already been discussed over the weeks endlessly and will be again probably at the seasons end when the owners inevitably make changes. And adding Ashton out to every post like yesterday’s result is conflating the two. With no new information why do you feel the need to ‘making it it known how I feel about the matter’? What do you hope to achieve? You’ve made it clear how you feel as have others, as have I. Nobody has asked you to forfeit your views and nor are they forfeit by not mentioning them. Have you considered others might feel the same way, possibly even a majority, but don’t feel the need to keep on shouting about it, figuratively?

I’ll tell you again, it’s the realty of the situation. I clearly previously misjudged you. I’m not interested in ‘your world’ but thanks for sharing. All I’m trying to ‘achieve’ is expression and I’m succeeding at that. I don’t believe anyone is “adding Ashton out to every post” - I’m certainly not. How others feel and how others choose to express themselves isn’t my business or concern.

You said ‘I always assumed you were a fully grown man who understood that some people won’t have the same opinion as you and that you don’t get to choose hiw/when/why others feel or communicate how they feel about things - my bad.‘ So let’s settle for ‘the reality of the situation’ that you were just being rude. I was not rude to you. I tend to try and post as I would if I was talking face to face. Better that way. As for ‘misjudging’ me I’ll try and live with the disappointment. I try to avoid judging others, I’ve no idea what you mean by ‘All I’m trying to achieve is expression’, but if you’re happy, great.

They may well be shocked and pissed off. That doesn't mean it has "detrimentally affected" their businesses. And it doesn't mean our chances of attracting future sponsors has been "detrimentally affected" either. I imagine most future sponsors won't have even heard about it, or cared. It's fine to be annoyed about this still, and it's fine to want Ashton to go. But there's no need to make up additional reasons to try to strengthen the case. It's strong enough already. If sponsors were pulling out of the club, or if potential sponsors were cancelling their interest because of it, it would get out. There's no evidence of any of that, so far.

Agree. I think most sponsorship deals must have a line or two in the contract about severing ties if the sponsored party does anything stupid. This situation was stupid but seems to have been dealt with behind the scenes. Any future sponsorship deals with probably have a lot more in the contract about exactly what they will not tolerate which will be a good thing all around.

Brand values are accounted for as intangibles, precisely because they are never possible to accurately value. Just as brand effectiveness is incredibly hard to accurately evaluate. But that doesn't mean Brands don't have intrinsic values to a business. Our Brand will have been damaged over the past month, by how much people can speculate but to argue that because it's hard to quantify it hasn't happened is for the birds. I don't think you'll find one credible voice who understands brands and their importance to a business arguing that associating with a divisive figure like Farage enhances their brand image If that were the case, brands would be queueing up to use Farage, they are not. You can argue black is white all you like, but it's a ridiculous position to take.

He's not alone with this tactic, although he's one of the worst. Quite unpleasant if you dare challenge him. Theres a tight knit group of about 10 of them (we could both make identical lists), all very similar in how they act on the board, sometimes the group attacks in tandem. Its all very pathetic but they will tell you its us that are always wrong. [Post edited 12 Apr 17:25]

There are plenty of ways to evaluate brand values and effectiveness. Share prices, letters of complaint, sales dips or rises, key performance indicators, returns on investment etc. etc. I say that as someone who has worked in the advertising industry for nearly 20 years. I haven't argued anything has or hasn't happened. I've argued we don't have any evidence either way. Saying I'm arguing black is white is a meaningless soundbite. I haven't actually argued strongly for anything, other than evidence.

you came on here just to see if people were still upset about our chairman inviting a racist mp to portman road, then lying and incompetently covering it up? then if they were, you'd abuse them? on the weekend itfc had it's first derby double in 33 years? that's one of the saddest things i've seen on here!

There’s a lot of very normal middle aged men on here, acting in a very ordinary way and making passive (or in some cases, active) defence of quasi fascists, while simultaneously trying to shut down people expressing their disdain for the person who invited said quasi fascist and insulted the supporters intelligence by lying to them about it, until being caught out. Anyway, it’s probably the people who ethically object to being lied to that are the problem- maybe if they were a little more accepting of the club inviting a quasi fascist to lunch there wouldn’t even be a problem…
