| Decided I’m not going to the game Monday 20:43 - Mar 29 with 22906 views | The_Romford_Blue | Sometimes you’ve got to take a moral standpoint. Never been so disappointed by our club. For people like Newcy to say he doesn’t want to bring his kids to the games, for Rainbow Tractors having to make their account private on Twitter, for the girl who does the Art who’s been dragged into it by Reform, for those of us who’ve received hundreds of abusive replies by far-right scumbags, and for anyone else who - as a result of our clubs actions - have had OUR club cause them problems this week.. for those people I’m going to vote with me feet. | Decided I’m not going to the game Monday on 22:24 - Mar 29 with 1330 views | BRIDGHAMBLUE | I think this is getting a bit over the top, if I’m honest. Not going to a game because a politician visited or had some form of association with the club feels like a massive leap. Football clubs interact with all sorts of people, it doesn’t mean they endorse everything about them or every supporter who might then jump online. The abuse people are getting online is obviously wrong, no one should be dealing with that. But that’s down to individuals behaving badly, not the club itself. Blaming the club for what random people say on Twitter is a stretch. Also, terms like “far-right scumbags” just keep the whole thing escalating. It becomes less about what actually happened and more about people shouting labels at each other. Everyone’s entitled to take a stance if they want, but this feels more like emotion taking over than a proportionate response to what’s actually happened. At the end of the day, it was a visit/interaction, not the club suddenly changing its identity or values. | | | |

| Decided I’m not going to the game Monday on 20:53 - Mar 29 by Nutkins_Return | You've got to make the right choice for you and whatever you do is completely your call. Disgusted at what happened but for me it's on Ashton now. Personally think he should step down but if not he needs to use actions and not his hollow words to turn this around with some quality community initiatives backing up our values. BUT personally I think we should back the team. None of this was the the team or McKenna. Frankly they need us now. But whatever your decision and it seems you have made it then I'd respect it. |
Would you feel the same if labour turned up.?

| Decided I’m not going to the game Monday on 21:43 - Mar 29 by _CliveBaker_ | I’m not either. Probably a bit pointless as no doubt it’ll be a small handful who stay away (not a criticism of those who don’t by the way, each the their own etc) and it’ll barely be noticeable I’d imagine. But I’m really annoyed still, sick of Ashton’s arrogance and inflated sense of self importance and feel a bit sick every time I see Farage inside PR. Absolute scrote. I couldn’t go to Boro anyway since they moved it, as I have plans on the Sunday. Could well be my season over. |
Write to the club explaining the reason for your non-attendance (if you do decide not to go). Then it is noticable to the club especially if there are a number of season ticket holders that do this and i think there will be.

| Decided I’m not going to the game Monday on 21:45 - Mar 29 by DinnernotTea | Believe me, I don't want you explaining a single thing. I just hope you don't return to Portman Road and find another club. We have men that will be running their bollocs off to give us all happiness and memories but you want to leave an empty seat. Let's hope they show more courage than you and get the vital 3 points. That said, you've got the attention off strangers you were clucking for so goody goody gumdrops. |
1) I was there when we were sh*t. In away ends of 800 at places like Cardiff and Barnsley. Week in, week out. I’ll be there long after Ashton and this influx of the far-right we will have gained this week. 2) Is it a lack of courage to not do something you enjoy doing because you believe the point you’re making is worthwhile? You might know I’m a big horse racing fan. It’s my livelihood. It’s my career. I slated those protestors who went to Aintree a few years ago to tie themselves to the fence. But I slated them for being so misinformed. I admired their decision to stand behind their beliefs. That is courage. 3) Ultimately, me tweeting something pretty mundane that mentioned my disappointment with the club hosting Farage resulted in a hundred bots and strangers giving me sh*t all week. That was as a direct result of the actions of the club’s hierarchy. And our owners haven’t acted. Therefore the club do not deserve my fandom. The players - yes. McKenna - yes. But the club as a whole.. they do not. Not right now. 4) It is my decision to make. That’s my reasoning. I don’t care if you agree. I really really don’t.

| Decided I’m not going to the game Monday on 22:22 - Mar 29 by N2_Blue | Rommers, pls can i suggest that you write to the club advising you as a season ticket holder chose not to attend the game. Then it is an effective protest in that the club will see people are taking action. I will be writing explaining my absense. |
I will be doing this. I just don’t want to do it yet as frankly I’m certain they’re not even going to be reading the multiple emails they’ll be receiving. At least if I send it when they think it’s all died down in a weeks time, someone somewhere might give it a quick glance before it’s deleted.

Constructive criticism: "just a visit" and "but Labour..." in consecutive posts is a bit transparent. Spread them out a bit or it becomes too obvious.

| Decided I’m not going to the game Monday on 21:29 - Mar 29 by Churchman | No I don’t have the capacity to understand why he is doing what he’s doing or announcing to the ether that he’s doing it. Harming the people who work for that club and the team that represent it in my mind cannot be reconciled with the actions of a few individuals at most who caused this mess. They will be gone sooner or later - along with some of our better players, McKenna and his staff. It’s inevitable. Maybe the bedrock of the club could do with some support? Unless as some do you want to return this club to the warm and comfy decaying sh1t pit it once was. I’ve no idea how many people work for the club but I doubt many are happy with what happened last week. They work, they do their best. It’s how it is. From a capacity free ignoramus, nobody goes to a game to cheer Ashton’s neatly trimmed beard or some boxer he’s shovelled into the directors box. They go to watch a game. Partake. Hope, cheer, be happy or sad. It sport and my team. Those that do that have zilch to do with people who nudge up to vermin masquerading as politicians, whoever they vote for. But hey, his choice. |
How else do you suggest a stand is made sensibly, without fuelling their hate/division wagon?

I’d argue you do, in fact, give a sh*t. Otherwise why would you care if I choose to go or not. I’m not suggesting anyone else joins me. I’m simply saying in my view, I’m choosing to make the decision that I am not going.

Like I said, each to their own, but my belief is that it’s a more powerful message to be there together for this one. [Post edited 30 Mar 6:22]

| Decided I’m not going to the game Monday on 06:17 - Mar 30 with 819 views | SitfcB | I think this is the wrong choice to make. McKenna and the players don’t deserve to lose the support, if anything they deserve more support and a big united front. Having a full house and positive atmosphere would be a big f’ck you to many. If you’re not going to this one then your season is over as surely you won’t go to any more until Ashton is gone? And that probably won’t happen until the summer. | |

gtsb1966, I 100% agree with you At the end of the day, Nigel Farage is a well liked and well respected MP by many thousands of people in this country, and so is Reform. If he wasn't popular,he wouldn't have been voted in at Clacton. He has tons of rallies around the country that are sold out in no time He represented south east England for 21 years as MEP in the European Parliament. Like it or not, the bloke is very popular. It's become a joke now on this forum and people have blown it way, way, way out of proportion, with many jumping on the bandwagon just for the sake of it. I have been going to Portman Road for 55 years now and I couldn't give two figs about what has happened the past week. Mark Ashton can invite or have lunch with whoever he likes at the football club. I am involved in ITFC to support my team on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon or midweek. Grow up people!

I couldn't care less who Ashton dines with. I do care that Ashton Lied to the press and thus fans about the circumstances Upset a number of our players Upset a section of the fans Damaged our future player recruitment Reduced the value of future club sponsorships Trying to minimise people's anger is your call. But for most of us (who are angry) it's so much more than Ashton having dinner with Farage.
